Darkness enveloped the entire house when Silas went home after a busy day at work. As his gaze roamed around the house along with his activated heightened senses, he knew that there was no sign of anyone at home. He could not hear the heartbeat of the cheap rogue, which only meant that Klaire had yet to send her back to this house.
Earlier that morning, his twin sister mind linked him, telling him that she wanted to bring Cresia to her home. Silas could not say no to his twin sister. When Cattleya was still alive, she and Klaire were practically best friends. They were so close, like real sisters, that when Cattleya died, a big part of Klaire was ripped apart too. Silas could not forget how Klaire cried in despair after his wife’s death; how she mourned for years while the rest of the world had moved on from the death of the only she-wolf he ever loved the most.
Her pattern was familiar. The way Klaire lurked around Cresia was the same as when they found out that Cattleya was his mate. Even though Silas wanted her to stay away from Cresia as there was no way she could replace Cattleya in their lives, he could not stop his twin sister as it had been a while since he had seen her this cheerful.
Silas went to his evening routine. He cooked his dinner and ate it alone, drank some wine and took a hot shower before he went to bed. Just when he was about to lie down on his comfortable bed after a long day of stressful work and arguments with Evelyn and some Elders who visited him, he heard the clacking sound of footsteps from the outside.
‘They are here,’ Ryker said in his mind.
Silas planned to ignore the two she-wolves singing an unfamiliar song as they walked inside the house. However, Klaire called to him repeatedly, leaving him without a choice but to go out of his room and descend downstairs.
Klaire was carrying Cresia on her back. The two she-wolves were totally wasted and smelled like a reek of strong alcohol. Silas winced as he walked to them.
"How many times do I have to call your name before you respond to me? Do you know that’s kind of rude?!" Klaire grimaced, her eyes narrowing because of the drunkenness.
"You said you were just going to eat with her. What the hell did you do, Klarey?" Silas grimaced, taking a look at Cresia, who had already fallen asleep on his twin sister’s back.
Klaire giggled and snorted. "You see, we did some girl talk, and it wouldn’t be fun without nerve-racking alcohol." She then motioned for him to take Cresia from her back, which Silas unwillingly did.
He took Cresia and carried her into his arms. The rogue was so wasted that such movement did not even awaken her, and to his surprise, she started snoring like a bear.
His twin sister sighed loudly, making him look back at her. Klaire shook her head and ran her fingers through her messy hair. "I can’t help but see Cattleya in her. She’s very brave, stubborn and fragile all at the same time. What a poor wolf."
"She’s far different from Cattleya," Silas hissed at his twin sister.
"You’re saying that because you don’t like her," Klaire talked back, putting her hands on both sides of her hips. "But to me, who observes fairly, she’s not that different from your late wife."
Silas growled a bit. He never liked it when Cattleya was compared to anyone. She was incomparable, too high and perfect, and no one would be able to compete with her. Not even Evelyn, or the rogue in his arms.
"This rogue doesn’t want to fight Evelyn for a match. She wants to give up, beg, and probably die in Evelyn’s hands." Klaire stared at him blankly. "I hate it, Silas."
He could not speak, and only listened to whatever Klaire had to say.
"I hate it knowing that we can do something to save her and give her another chance to live a new life that’s completely different from what she's endured, yet you... her mate isn’t doing anything to give that relief to her." She then crossed her arms against her chest, her brow arching as she gave him a bloodshot look. "You blame her for the chaos that happened, when in fact it was your entire fault, Silas. When will you grow up?"
Silas was taken aback. His jaw clenched as he looked at his twin sister intently, who had no remorse for saying those things that had offended him severely.
He was aware that Klaire and Klyde were confused by his actions. He, himself, wasn’t quite sure about what he was doing. His plan had failed, and his anger led him to turn away from Cresia and not want to proceed with his initial plan anymore. He was enraged by the fact that Evelyn questioned him why he hadn’t marked his second-chance mate, how Cresia rubbed it in his face that he was a failure, how his father still wanted to manipulate him and all the irritating happenings in between all of it. In the end, he wanted to abandon either path without thinking about how it would affect these women.
"Silas, you have to listen to me." Klaire took a long deep breath and then continued, "Protect this girl at all cost. She had prepared herself to die before the grand ball. She didn’t want to agree to accept you and take part in your plan, but I convinced her because I believed you could do something to change her destiny. Stop disappointing me, Silas. I hope you know that Cattleya wouldn’t like this behaviour of yours."
Klaire sighed and looked at Cresia before heading out of his house. He then stared down at Cresia, who was comfortably sleeping in his arms. She looked innocent when asleep, and was like a tiger when not. He shook his head and went to her room to lay her down on the bed.
Cresia whimpered softly. He pulled the duvet and covered her body, tucked her hair behind her ear and offered her one last glance before he left the room.

"Cresia..." a familiar voice humming her name echoed in her ears. "Cresia, come here. We will play. I’ll be your master, and you’ll be my slave..." Then he laughed wickedly.
The hair on the back of her neck stood on end as she tried to run through the dark tunnel. Her breathing was becoming heavy, her body was getting weak, yet she forced her feet to run as fast as she could, for Colton was after her and wanted to hurt her.
"Come on, my little sister. Stop running and make me happy instead!" Colton shouted and laughed.
Her tears streamed down her cheeks as she tried to escape. But the tunnel was so long and was getting darker every second that passed. She ended up stumbling against the rock, and just when her body fell to the ground, she felt calloused hands pull her legs. Colton laughed devilishly, making her turn to him. Cresia tried to push and kick him, screaming for help at the same time while tears pooled in her eyes.
But no one came to her rescue.
"P-Please... Don’t do this, Colton..." she pleaded as Colton started to tear her clothes apart, revealing her naked body.
"Damn, Cres... You’re so hot!"
She cried more when he grabbed her breasts, massaging them painfully. It made her whimper. Her legs tried to kick him again, but Colton was strong enough that he wasn’t bothered by her attack.
He tied her hands up, and the next thing he knew, he was already putting his fingers into her private part, making her scream in pain. Colton was laughing as he violated her to his satisfaction, and when he undressed and went on top of her, it felt like she already saw the devil in disguise as the Alpha of the Ferocious Manes.
Silas woke up to the loud whimpers of a woman. His wolf snarled at him in his mind, and he could sense that the whimpers came from the rogue. He got off the bed and dashed into her room, where he saw her curling into the bed and making loud noises.
‘She’s having a nightmare!’ Ryker growled.
He ran towards her and scooped her up immediately. "Hey, hey, little wolf!"
"N-No... please... d-don’t do this, Colton... N-No!"
"Cresia!" Silas growled, and that made her forcefully open her eyes.
Panting, Cresia cried as she crawled over to the headboard of the bed, hiding herself from the blanket. Silas was shocked to see how she panicked. She looked as if she had been traumatized by her nightmare and was being hunted by someone whose name was Colton. Silas tried to soothe her by rubbing her arm and slightly shaking her so she’d come to her senses.
"Hey, little wolf. I’m here. No one’s going to hurt you," he said softly, trying to calm her down, but Cresia’s tears did not stop falling.
"He’s going to r**e me. He’s after me... He wants me..." Cresia mumbled faintly. "He’s going to hurt me." Then she grabbed Silas’ arm tightly as she shook her head. "Please, don’t give me back to him. H-He will r**e and kill me... Please, don't—" she snorted, before falling asleep in his arms.
Silas was unmoved. He looked down at her, who appeared to have gotten a normal night's sleep and as if no nightmare had just woken her up. But all those things she said lingered in his mind. His chest tightened, thinking that Colton, the Alpha of the Ferocious Manes and the one she thought was her brother, wanted to abuse her. She would not have dreamed of something like that if the attempt to r**e her had not happened.
A growl escaped his mouth. He didn’t know why, but as he continued to stare down at her, he suddenly had the urge to protect her. They stayed in that position for almost an hour, and when Silas felt that Cresia was already having a good sleep, that was the only time he left her room.
***
Cresia blinked awake. The sun shone brightly through the window and blinded her eyes. It was painful to bear, and so her right hand tried to cover her face, but it didn’t ease the pain.
"What the..." she whimpered as she shifted her position on the bed.
She winced; her hand immediately went to her head as she felt the throbbing pain from it. She felt so weak, and could hardly lift her body to sit upright.
Scratching her head after taking a few deep breaths, she finally remembered what happened that caused her to have a severe headache. She and Klaire had finished so many bottles of alcohol, and that made her drunk for the very first time...
...and it would be the last time she’d do that as the headache was truly a pain in the ass!
Swallowing the lump in her throat, she forced her legs to get off the bed. She needed fresh water more than anything to relieve how she felt. However, before she could stand up to leave the room, the door suddenly opened. Silas entered the room holding a tray with breakfast and a glass of water.
"Hangover?" Silas commented as he raised an eyebrow.
Cresia did not speak. Even though the headache she felt was the worst of all, she couldn’t help but wonder whether Silas had finally hit his head, as now he was talking to her!
Wasn’t he not mad anymore?
And why did she feel excited about it?
"What are you doing?" she asked.
"Serving your breakfast."
"I mean..." She bit her lower lip as she continued to look at her, confused. "Aren’t you supposed to ignore me?"
"You want me to ignore you then, huh?" He crossed his arms. "Why? So you can leave the house and get drunk all you want?"
"N-No... I’m not even going to drink again." She could feel the need to vomit but tried her best to prevent it. "So, are...we good?"
Silas just shrugged. "Eat your food and have some rest. I need you to be at your full strength tomorrow."
"Why?" Her forehead creased.
He stared at her intently. "I’m going to commit myself to you and make my plan work. In order to do so, we need the Highest Priestess' help to unlock your wolf. If someone’s going to die in the upcoming match, I won’t allow it to be you..."
