At Vanie Enterprise, Mr Williams Marker walked into the beautifully decorated office room. Rev Albert was seated in his favorite office chair, engrossed in the work at his desk.
His heart wasn't in a good place, but it darkened when he saw who walked into his office.
"My good friend for life!" Marker hailed, as he dived into an armchair facing Rev Albert. He didn't need to be ushered into a seat as he believed that he and Rev Albert had established a substantial relationship.
Rev Albert faked a smile, as he lifted his gaze to meet the man before him.
Seeing Mr Marker was the last thing he had wanted, but since Mr Marker had called and insisted he must come that day, he didn't have any other choice than to oblige.
"You don't look happy to see me, why?"
Mr Williams asked with arched brows which were several shades darker than his tanned coat.
Being a high-spirited man, he lifted the half-filled glass on the table and poured the whole content into his mouth, licking his lips like a toddler who had eaten mashed potatoes for the first time.
"What brought you here, Marker?"
Rev Albert asked impatiently, trying so hard to avoid his gaze.
"Really? Wait, who offended you man?"
"You can see I have a lot of work on my table, Marker."
Rev Albert stated, gesturing his hands over the table filled with tons of documents.
Mr Marker surveyed the table briefly before coming to the point. Besides, he wasn't entirely interested in getting close to Rev Albert, it had only been business to him.
"Okay, I brought this for you to sign."
He declared, pushing a document towards Rev Albert.
"It contains the details of the business we agreed you would invest in after our kids get married."
Rev Albert chuckled, his eyes glancing towards the glass on his table. He would have loved to take some sip to calm his already heated nerves, but Mr Marker had consumed it all.
He let out a mocking laughter, wondering if that was some sort of joke.
"Sign the documents after your son sent Elly packing in just forty-eight hours of marriage?"
Rev Albert questioned, thinking Marker had an idea of what had happened to Elly and Jake's marriage.
Now it was Mr Marker's turn to give a mocking laugh, "is this a joke or something?"
He whispered, trying so hard to control his pulses that had flamed up.
"Why don't you call your son, who couldn't be strong enough to keep his marriage, and hear it from his mouth."
Rev Albert thundered, without hiding how disgusted he felt.
Just then, Jake walked into the office room, and on sighting his father, he wished he could run back and shut the door.
"Oh s**t!"
Jake exclaimed as he walked towards the two men who were attempting to devour him with their dreadful gaze.
He adjusted the collar of his white shirt, gathering as much courage as he could.
Jake was a man filled with so much masculinity and determination. Aside from being very smart and hardworking, he had the most enchanting aura, which his father would always employ each time he wanted to close a deal.
But Mr Marker, being as greedy as he was, still refused to hand over his company to Jake without manipulating him into getting married to Elly.
Jake was fearless, he didn't fear even his father, but not today.
He was scared, not particularly because he couldn't stand his father, but because he hadn't had any peace since Elly left and wouldn't want any more drama.
"What is this I heard you did, Jake?"
Mr Marker thundered, while plastering his gaze on Jake. But Jake didn't bother to look at his father, instead he turned to Rev Albert and said,
"Do you by any chance know where Elly is, Sir?"
Rev Albert's eyebrows raised immediately, and his heart was almost leaping for joy thinking Jake had come to take Elly back.
"I've been trying to contact her since she left my house, but she hasn't been picking up my calls." Jake continued.
He gulped as he read the countenance on the men's faces, while preparing how best to drop the main thing that had brought him there.
With the look on the men's faces, they had thought he had come to take Elly back.
"I have come to let her sign these divorce papers. Do you know where I can find her, sir?"
He finally sounded, reigniting sadness in the room.
"No...no... no, you didn't do that..."
Rev Albert stuttered in fear, while waving his hands over Jake's face as if his gesture would make him change his mind.
"What do you think will happen to my reputation?"
He asked impatiently.
Yes! It was all about reputation to Rev Albert, and to him every other thing can go down the drain as long as his reputation was intact.
Jake gave a wry smile, "I hope you help me find Elly. Let's put an end to all this mess once and for all."
He sounded, pushing the documents to Rev Albert, as if he would be the one to help Elly sign them.
He turned to face his father, who was now speechless and said, "I'm going to get married to Sane, besides he's still his daughter, right?..."
"No no no..."
Rev Albert protested, "what do you think people would say?" he continued.
He couldn't wrap his head around what the community he pastored would say.
That his first daughter divorced the man she had a one-night stand with, and now his second daughter is getting married to the same man?
That was a lot for him to process.
"People can say whatever they want, sir. I hope you get Elly soon."
Jake sounded firmly, and left.
"But the two are your daughters, Albert. Just sign the damn papers already and send that Elly girl out of town, in time people will forget her."
Mr Marker advised, well with an ulterior motive, getting as he was now losing his patience and couldn't wait to manipulate Rev Albert into the deepest pit he could ever imagine get in.
The details of the business deals they had discussed earlier were all false compared to what was written in the document.
Rev Albert had sensed his plans then, decided to check the details immediately, and what he saw sent a shocking wave to him.
"Wait! Is this what we agreed on?"
He asked, as he rolled his eyes in disbelief.
