Chapter 4|| Temptation

4|| Alina|| The tension in the room thickened as Darryl stepped into the room, glaring at me— waiting for an answer. For a couple of seconds, I just stood there not knowing what to say— how was I even going to say it? "What is wrong with you, I asked you a question?" He growled as he sternly swept his eyes over me. "I— I was—" "She was with me, did you forget that I asked to see her?" King Malcom quickly put in and I felt Darryl's angry eyes shift away from me. "Oh... I thought she was just wandering again. I heard she could be quite mindless sometimes." A dry chuckle followed his sentence and I threw him a dirty look. My heart tightened with irritation but I calmed myself— at least it meant that he didn't see anything. He only came here to mock me. "Anyway, it's time for dinner. We wouldn't want her missing on her own wedding day, right father?" "Hmm." Malcom mumbled and Darryl's grin grew wider as he turned to me. He stretched his hand at me; "Come on, Wifey, let's go." Out of courtesy, I took his hands and let him lead me back to the garden set up where the guests were still gathered with their wines and small talks. The large banquet table was set and everyone slowly shuffled around it checking for their sitting arrangement. Already knowing where we were headed, Darryl took me to the head of the table where my mother was sat. "Prince Darryl, please sit... There is so much we need to talk about, now that the ceremony is over," she said, waving her hands dramatically over our seats. Like a true gentleman, Darryl pulled out my seat for me and helped himself as well before replying to my mother. "What might that be, Luna?" "The movement of the soldiers for my pack's protection. When can we expect them?" "About—" Darryl started to say but Malcom suddenly cut him off as he appeared across from me. He picked a chair that was directly opposite me and settled down, with his eyes fixed solely on me. "Ten dozen have already set up at your border. They will be there as long as I command them too," he said. It was almost like a threat or a reminder of what could happen if I didn't do as he wanted... "Oh that's wonderful!" My mother exclaimed. "All that's left now is the honeymoon. When are you two leaving?" My heart tightened further at the news but like a true royal, I sat there, pretending to enjoy the conversation, even if deep down, I knew I would die first before I let Darryl touch me! "I already made reservations, you know the sooner she makes me an heir the better," Darryl replied and my mother chuckled along with him. "Cancel that reservation." Malcom's voice suddenly cut through the space and everyone froze. At this point, my heart was beating so fast that if we were in a room, they would all hear the echoes. "Father— I... I already made the—" "Cancel it." He simply repeated with an authority that couldn't be ignored. "You both got married in a rush. Why not take time off to actually know each other before jumping into honeymoon?" Darryl's face hardened as he glared at his father— who looked too calm for comfort. "It's settled then!" My mother let out, softening the tension between father and son. "You can both get to know each other as the king as suggested. I am sure it will be perfect." I tried to focus on the turkey pieces in front of me while pretending like I couldn't feel Malcom's eyes on me throughout dinner. When it was finally over, we all walked back to their vehicles for our departure. My mother held my hands, never saying a word, yet I could hear all her warnings echoing in her silence. "Thank you so much for the warm reception," Darryl said to my mother as we stopped in front of his car. A guard quickly appeared to open the door but before he could complete his job, Malcom's voice filled the space and my heart sank. What could he want now? "They are both riding with me," he said and the guard quickly moved to the next vehicle which was a limousine. For the first time Darryl didn't look enraged about his father's decision, infact, he looked relieved. As if a ride with me would have suffocated him. I hugged my mother one last time and got into the limodine with father and son. Why Darryl looked absolutely calm as he typed away on his phone, tension built between Malcom and I. His eyes never left my body. I could feel the heat of his vision as it slowly undressed every piece of garment on me. It didn't even help that my wolf enjoyed the attention a little too much. I tried to sleep, pretending not to be aware of his stares but that only made it worse. For the moment I closed my eyes, the first image in front of me was his hard toned muscles on that bed in that cursed club! Fuck. My eyes flew open immediately and I stared out the window, hoping the view would help. But even that did nothing. I had to endure the heat of desire he was sending to me through our the ride. By the time the torturous trip came to an end, all I wanted was to get as far away from him as possible. Not even the warm welcome from the maids or the large mansion in front of me mattered, I just needed to get away from Malcom. "Darryl, there is a shipment I need you to collect in the southern region," Malcom said the moment the welcoming party went away and I stared at them wondering what they were talking about. Darryl's eyes narrowed. "You want me to do it now?" "Yes. Do you have a problem with that?" "No father, I just... What about Alina?" "Don't worry about her. I will take care of her tonight." The moment he said those words, my core tightened because even my body knew I was about to be tempted in the worst ways possible...
