11 I ran away from the crowded platform, hoping to put as much distance between myself and those hoodie people as possible. When I thought I had run far enough, I started to search for a place to spend the night. I didn’t really like the thought of being in the subway, so close to those dark tunnels, but I decided that I would rather face those than have to endure the cold. The station wasn’t completely empty, but it was empty enough for me to look for a hiding place without being noticed. So when I finally found a good spot—a thin space underneath a staircase that was almost completely hidden because it faced a wall—I waited until no one was looking and squeezed into it.
