CHAPTER TWO - PLANNED BY FATE

1543 Words
MARA’S POV I woke up gagged and tied to a chair in a dark room. What the hell? Did Clara really drug me and bring me here? I couldn’t believe it. This was just some awful nightmare that I needed to wake up from, I told myself repeatedly, as that s*x tape kept replaying in my head, filling my belly with nausea. “Are you awake yet?” I heard Clara ask. I looked up to find her standing in the doorway, with her arms folded. “What the actual f**k is this?!” I asked her as soon as she pulled the gag away from my mouth. Call me slow, but I still couldn’t process the fact that my own sister was doing this to me. We hadn't even fought before, so I couldn't think of a reason to justify this behavior. “You're still in shock, you should have accepted your fate by now, because I am not going to let you leave here alive,” she promised me, and my stomach sank in dread. Clara was actually going to kill me, I realized, as I looked up at her scornful blue eyes, glinting at me in the darkness. “Is there anyone out there?! HELP!!!” I screamed as I began to struggle with the ropes, trying to see if I could wiggle my arms free from it. “It's no use yelling for help, there is no living soul out there. I brought you here because I need proof that you have been kidnapped. When your husband pays me the ransom, I am going to kill you and go back in your place,” she explained to me, and tears fell out of my eyes as I looked at her in confusion. “What? Why the f**k would you do that? We are sisters for goodness’ sake. Clara, please if I did something wrong, just tell me, I honestly don't understand why you are acting like this,” I begged her as she approached me, still glaring at me with hatred in her eyes. “You don't know why I am acting like this?” She asked, “even after everything you did, you are shocked that I am acting like this?” “What exactly did I do that was so bad that it would make you want to kill me?” “You took everything from me, you and your f*****g perfect life. You used to be in my shadow! You used to be the stupid one!” she yells at me. “Remember high school, you used to be the nerd, and I was the popular one. How did all that suddenly change after college? Why did you have to work in the company and not me? Now, thanks to your two goody shoes behavior, father hates me. He is cutting me off completely, and he is going to give you the company!!!” she continued to shout in my face, her eyes glowing crazily like she was getting more and more annoyed. I couldn't believe what I was hearing, all this while, I envied her freedom, and now I was finding out that she envied my life? That she hated me enough to want to kill me today of all days. This was so f****d up. “Is that why you slept with him? To spite me? Do you even realize how crazy you sound right now?” I asked her and she slapped me. “Don't f*****g speak unless I ask you to?” she screamed, while my face stung from the slap. I stared up at Clara, with tears starting to run down my cheeks in horror. It felt like her mask had dropped and whoever was in front of me right now was completely different. The identical face staring back at me belonged to a monster. “Are you really going to kill me?” I asked solemnly, feeling goosebumps spread across my skin. “Yes Mara,” she said, like it was fate. “You are going to die today.” Suddenly, she took out a phone from her back pocket and took a picture of my tear-stained face. “There, I just sent a picture to your husband, now we wait for his response.” “Even if you manage to kill me and go back to my place, how are you going to explain your own disappearance?” I asked her as she turned to leave, and she paused, giving me an amused look. “Wow, you really are more stupid than I thought. You are going to die in my place, Mara, then when I return to Ben, I will be the poor sad girl who lost her twin sister,” she explained sadly, and my blood ran cold. She had really thought of everything. “What about my daughter?” I asked, panicking. “What is going to happen to Emma?” “Emma will continue to exist for as long as I want her to,” Clara replied with a wicked glint in her eyes, and I was horrified to think my own blood sister was capable of such evil. “Please Clara, just let me go,” I begged. I couldn’t let this continue, even if it meant crawling on broken glass to appeal to her, I was willing to try. “I swear I will not tell anyone what happened here. I would just say we got into a little accident,” I continued to plead, hoping to appeal to whatever good is left in her. “Shut the f**k up Mara, you are not leaving this place alive, get used to it,” she replied coldly, and then she pulled the gag back over my mouth, leaving me alone in the darkness. Some minutes later, a tall burly man armed with a gun walked in. “You must be the boss’s sister,” he said to me as he pulled down the gag. In his free hand was a glass of water. “Who are you?” I asked him, looking at the water and suddenly realizing how thirsty I was. “I am Jonathan, the man who is going to kill you,” he replied with a smile. Just f*****g perfect. I had cried enough tears by now, I didn’t want to give him the pleasure of seeing me cry again. “Can you at least give me water?” The smile on his face widened as he poured the water on the floor beside me, making me watch in horror as the precious drops fell to the floor. “If you are so thirsty, then you can lick it off the floor,” he said too, and I bit my bottom lip, feeling rage echo through my bones. “Jonathan, come out here, her husband is calling,” Clara called to him from outside. Immediately, he gagged me again and dropped the empty glass on the floor beside me before he walked out. My eyes darted down to the glass cup by my side as a plan began to form in my head. If I could break the cup and use a sharp piece to cut my ropes free, then I would be able to escape. I used my leg to kick the glass hard, and it fell to the tiled floor breaking into shards, and I stopped moving immediately. My heart was beating fast as I wondered if any of them had heard it. A moment passed, and after I was sure they didn’t hear, I started to look for a way to pick the largest piece of glass to use. I tipped the chair to fall over with a crash, the impact aching my bones, but I barely registered the pain. My fingers clawed at the ground, desperately, until they found what I needed– a shard of glass. I sucked in a sharp breath as I closed my fingers around it, biting back a groan when the glass bit into my palm. With a grunt, I pushed against the floor, straining, forcing my body back upright. The chair wobbled beneath me, but I didn’t stop. I couldn’t stop. I didn’t stop until my chair was upright again, the glass trembled in my grip as I sawed through the rope around my wrists, trying to be as fast as possible. Finally, the rope snapped, and my hands flew apart. I was free Blood trickled down my fingers from the places that I had cut myself while trying to cut the rope, but I ignored it, bending down to cut the ropes on my legs. My hands were shaking as I finally freed myself and I stumbled up to my feet. I pulled the gag off my mouth as I stepped towards the door, holding the glass in my hand tightly as I hid behind the door, holding my breath and waiting. Knowing that I was going to hurt whoever it was that stepped through the door first. I didn’t care anymore, I was getting out of here no matter what. As if it was planned by fate, Clara walked into the room with a broad grin on her face.
