At The Masquerade Ball

Chapter 3

Lily felt like a princess in her dress and she was having a really good time at the party with James. They arrived just in time after Steven had given his speech and the actual party had just begun. They slipped past security without any one noticing as they fit into the crowd perfectly.

“You are such a life saver for inviting me to this party” Lily said with excitement in her eyes. “I just saw the actual Calvin Klein, as in the designer himself” “I am not surprised he’d be here i mean we have some business with him on occasions” James pointed out casually. “Honey, i must ay that this dress is doing wonders on you.” James complimented Lily as he steps back a bit to admire her in the dress. “You look stunning.” “All thanks to you. You made this Cinderella ready for the ball” Lily said as they both laughed. “Lily, would you excuse me a minute?” James says as he walks off.

Lily stood there almost in the middle of the hall as she admires it all, all the glitz and the glamour. The hall was magnificent to behold, the decorations and the attention to detail. There was a water fountain in the middle of the hall, it had multiple gold and glass chandeliers. There was a snack bar at the side of the hall which honestly looked like it had all the snacks in the world.

Lilly was sipping her champagne waiting for James when this dashing man with perfect hair and intimidating scent approached her. He wore his mask too just like almost everyone else at the event “I must say miss you look more radiant than the stars tonight” the masked man complimented her. He looked really dashing, he is tall with a good build and a better fashion sense too. Lily wanted to panic and escape from the conversation, whoever she decides to go with the flow and see where it ends. “Thank you very much, sir” She replied as he takes her hand and places a kiss on it. “I’m certain i’m yet to see you on the dance floor tonight.” He stated “if I may?” “certainly, kind sir” she affirmed as he led her to the dance floor. The Disk Jockey was really good at his job and his timing was perfect with the slow songs. “you happen to be a really good dancer.” Steven noted as they moved across the dance floor. As they danced, they had a nice chat about various topics from the life in general, to certain social topics and even the economy. And after a while, they walked away from the dance flow and went to the open bar for drinks. James decides to get whiskey on the rocks and Lily gets a martini for herself.

Steven was really impressed by the mystery lady in front of him. “So what do you think of the party?” Steven asked in a bid to elongate the conversation “Well, whoever put all this together carried out a really excellent job” she stated “I am really intrigued by the indoor fountain. Its a nice touch” Steven felt proud by this answer. By now, he was really interested about the identity of this girl, who was she and what did she do? “So may i know the beauty behind the mask?” Steven asked curiously “what is your name and which industry do you work in? I mean i can practically tell who-is-who amongst everyone in this hall, except you. I don’t think we’ve met before, have we?” James continued to inquire. “no we we haven’t” Lily answered “So, who are you?” James asked “I’m enjoying the mystery. Lets have it like that” Lily requested. Taken aback Steven asked “You don’t know who I am?” “No, sir.” Lily replied with a gentle smile as Steven raised an eyebrow “Relax... I have no hidden motive, I'm just a guest like everyone else.” Steven succumbed to her request as they both continued their conversation.

He decided that they take a walk outside at least to get away from it all for a while. There was a garden outside at the back. The night was already getting chilly and Steven gave Lily her jacket as they continued chatting and Steven still kept pressing to find out about her identity. After several attempts, he gave up on her and decides to see where it goes. “I’ve never really been so interested in a lady before. Most of the girls i have been with are either too materialistic, too shallow, or basically just want me for my body.” James pointed out “Well, i have that effect on people, especially with the guys i get involved with” Lily says as she was already blushing. Steven drew closer to Lily with their noses already touching, he could feel her breath and at some point he thought he heard her heart beat. He was lost in the windows of her eyes for a moment. The he decides to go for it. Steven kisses his mystery girl, and she returns the kiss with equal enthusiasm. He placed his hand on her mask in a bid to take it off. Lily stops him and requests that they things as they are. He is a bit frustrated but still very much interested. “i have never really have much luck with guys. I mean i have only dated crappy or selfish boys and I’m not one to give out on first meet.” Lily stated “So what are you saying?” James asked. “i mean i don’t look like a crappy dude” he said with a light sarcastic tone. “If you are really serious about this, us, lets meet back here same time next year.” Lily proposed “I know it sounds really stupid and all, but what do you have to lose. But If i am as interesting as you say, it would be worth the wait.” Steven reluctantly agreed to this deal, after all he did have nothing to lose.
