Chapter 1. First Sight

766 Words
18 years old Riley sits in front of her mansion admiring the peaceful sounds of birds chirping while sketching an orchid. Unlike any other final year student who would be studying for exams and writing entrance exams into different colleges, Riley uses her free time to sketch and admire nature. Her mom works overtime everyday as a doctor and comes back late at night only to leave again very early in the morning. Riley sometimes wonders if she sleeps at all. Her father goes on business trips and is rarely home. So she ends up all alone after school, but it's peaceful that way. She opened her eyes and removed her earphones "The birds have stopped... I'm hungry too". She closed her sketch book and stood up. She walked towards the big cherry blossom tree that stood in the centre of the estate. It's spring and the flowers are really blooming. She giggled and ran around the tree until she bumped into something.. or someone. She winced. 20 years old Felix Verlice looked down at the person who hit him. He squatted and stretched his hand out to her "You okay?" She opened her eyes and they both froze. Riley turned red upon sighting his crystal blue irises. His blonde hair fell over his face giving him an adorable look. His face held this warm feeling that captivated her. His thin pink lips toned well with his pale skin. Felix was also frozen by her looks. Her light brown hair was a little messy like a mischievous kid who had been playing around. Her small lips were pink and looked soft. Her almond irises matched her hair and fair skin. She was the first to regain herself and run away towards her mansion leaving her sketchbook behind. Felix picked up the book and sighed. He walked back to a black Liberty Jeep. "Let's go" he spoke to the driver. She's a beauty, don't you think, Your highness? " Felix hummed his reply before the man took off. Riley slammed her room door and rested on it. She held her chest "What was that?.. Oh no, my sketchbook" she whined. The book was one of her favourite objects that kept her company when she felt alone and now, she may never see it again. She switched on her phone "I don't have any papers tomorrow and final paper is on Friday. I can't sketch and there's nothing to do, argh". Her stomach growled. She craved ramen but there was everything in the house except ramen. she grabbed her cross bag and walked out after confirming that 'the boy' already left. She walked to the eatery a few metres from her house. Candy was the daughter of the shop owner and also one of the few that kept Riley company sometimes. She bought the noodles and a few other dishes before forcing Candy to eat with her. Riley woke up late on Friday. She got dressed in the school uniform. a white long sleeve shirt, Lilac colored skirt and tie, white stockings and sparkling black loafers. She brushed her hair and pinned it to the left. "This is the last time I'm wearing you". She picked her school bag and phone, locked the house and walked out to the car waiting for her. "Good morning Mr Rogers" she greeted the old man. He smiled "Morning to you too, Miss Sanders. Today's the last day of high school. Are you sure we aren't late?" She shook her head "Nope. Last paper isn't until noon". The man nodded and drove towards the school. As Riley got down from the car, all heads turned to her. She ignored them and walked up to Amy Rose, her best friend who was basically bouncing on her heels. "Riley, my favorite person in the world. Thank you so much for being my best friend, I don't know what I'll do without you" Amy whined dramatically. Riley flicked her forehead "I didn't go there for you, silly. I need a change of environment". Amy giggled "If anyone hear you say that, they'll faint". Riley laughed. Principal Griffin walked up to them "Riley Sanders, Stanfort High is so proud of you. Not only have you gotten full marks all through middle school and High school education, you got full marks on your exam application to Erindele". The students gasped. They all didn't believe it and all thought it was a rumor but coming from principal Griffin, it had to be true. Riley smiled and bowed to him "It's an honour to represent this school, Principal G".
