The next day, Grant and Jackson came in and stayed until Amara got off. They never crossed the bounds and ensured to be respectful. Every day, she turned him down.
When the fifth day came, Amara found herself waiting for them, feeling a tinge of disappointment when they weren't there at their usual time.
Amara's heart skipped a beat when the doors opened. Only to reveal Warren and L.T. Normally, L.T. would give her insane butterflies, but since that day with Tiffany, she's been avoiding him.
Which was why they were there. L.T. was going to finally sit her down and confess how he felt. No crazy exs.
But before he could get his chance, he was being pushed aside by delivery men coming in behind them.
"What's all this?" Kathrine asked.
Each of the 12 delivery men had bouquets of red roses. Setting them on the bar counter. Everyone stopped what they were doing, even Benny, who was in the back cooking. Before getting Amara, Grant knocked on Mitch's office door.
"Hello?" Mitch asked when he opened it.
"Hello sir, my name is Grant Williamson, and I would like your permission to take your daughter to dinner tomorrow night. I'm a good guy with a good heart and good intentions, and I would love her to accompany me under any circumstances you see fit. All I would like is a chance to get to know her." Amara was standing right behind her dad in the office and heard the whole ordeal.
Mitch glances behind him at his daughter, who is smiling.
"No," he said finally. Hearing Amara make a small gasp, and when he turned, the smile was gone.
Warren and L.T. couldn't help but let out a light chuckle, causing Kat to smack the boys.
"Sir?" Grant asked.
"We have a traditional Sunday dinner every Sunday, and everyone is required, so if you want to get to know my daughter, then you'll just have to come join us for supper. You can try and impress all of us with your good heart and good intentions,"Mitch scoffed.
Grant was a bit caught off guard for a moment but regained his composure quickly.
"Alright, sounds wonderful. I will see you both tomorrow night." With that, he turned and left.
"Wow, I guess he really must like you." L.T. said his expression was dull as he played with one of the rose pedals.
"Or he just has a lot of money, and this is just the normal thing for him." Warren stated, unimpressed.
"Well, either way, we'll find out the truth about this guy and what his real intentions are." Mitch said as he looked at Amara with a raised-brow. "And as usual, you are all invited."
"You can count L.T. and I to be there!" Beny said, putting his arm around his son.
That night, Amara couldn't sleep a wink. Just tossing and turning. All she could think about was L.T. and Grant. The only reason she didn't want to give Grant the chance was because she wanted to be with L.T. but that was never going to happen, so why not Grant?
She kept tossing and turning all night. Even throughout the next day, she couldn't sit still. Finally, it was 5 p.m. and Grant would be arriving anytime.
When he showed up, he had brought Jackson. Kat greeted them warmly and invited them in. Grant was seated in between Leo and Mitch, who sat at the head of the table. L.T. was on the other side of Mitch with Amara to his left.
Everyone was quiet at the table, mostly due to the awkward seating arrangement. Kathrine and Margret were known for their matchmaking and their seating arrangements. This time, Margaret and Kathrine had a plan. Luke would have Amara's heart, and no one else would.
""Thank you for inviting us, Mr. Davis," Grant said.
"Of course. So tell me, what do you do and where are you from?" Mitch asked him.
"I'm a college student at Buckland University, studying law, and I was born and raised in the city with my parents."
"So you come from a rich family, and you're in college," L.T. stated, sinking a little in his chair.
"I guess you could say that," Grant shrugged.
"Don't be so modest, I assume your father worked very hard for that money," Kat interjected.
"Yes, and it's impressive that an 18-year-old is already so invested in his future." Mitch stated.
"Well, my great-grandfather made the fortune, and every generation since has been making it double. I'm actually 22, and I am going to follow in my father's footsteps. It's what's expected of me."" He told them almost smugly.
"Oh," Kathrine said, then looked at Amara.
"That's interesting," Mitch said.
"We understand a thing or two about that. We are hoping to have Amara take over the Den one day. Keep traditions and so forth." Kathrine told them. "If that's what she ends up wanting, of course."
They had questions for both Jackson and Grant. It was obvious that the family disliked the two young men but kept the conversation polite, and when dinner was done, everyone was glad to leave. Amara walked both Grant and Jackson to their car.
"Sorry about tonight. My family is kind of crazy."" She laughed.
"I got to see you and get to know you a little more, so I personally think tonight was wonderful." Grant told her.
"I had a good night too, Amara. Thank you for having us. I'll go start the car."" He told them as he got into the car to give them privacy.
"Then there were two." She teased.
""Yes, look, I'm going to have to leave soon. My parents expected me a week ago." He laughed. "I want to see you again before I do. Would that be okay?"
"Yes, that sounds wonderful." Amara replied.
"Great, I'll pick you up before work tomorrow, OK?"
"Okay." He bent down and kissed her on the cheek.
Amara smiled as she walked up to the house. Mitch and Kat were waiting to speak with her.
"So what do you think?" she asked them, smiling.
"He's a nice boy," Mitch said quickly.
"Does that mean I can see him again?"
"I don't know, sweetheart," Kathrine said.
"But daddy just said he was a nice boy." Dani's bottom lip began pouting.
"I know, he does seem nice, but there's something I don't like about that boy." Kathrine frowned as she thought about Grant.
"But he's leaving tomorrow. After that I'll never see him again, so it won't matter.""
"I don't think it's wise, Amara. He is older than you. If he's the right one, he'll wait for you." Kathrine went on.
"I think your mother is right. He's way too old for you." Mitch said.
"Fine," Amara told them, raising her hands in defeat.
For the next few hours before bed, Danni watched T.V. with Warren and Leo. For the first time in her life, she was dead silent. Finally, it was 10, and she was ready to end the day. After telling everyone goodbye and goodnight, she headed to bed.
The next morning, she awoke to yelling. It took her a few minutes to realize it was her father yelling. When she heard the door slam shut, she jumped out of bed to see what was going on. When she got to the hallway outside her bedroom, she saw Leo at the top of the stairs eaves dropping.
"Good morning, What's going on down there?" Amara whispered.
"I'm not sure, Grant came over to see you and when dad told him you weren't allowed to see each other, Grant went off on dad and then mom sent me to my room like I was a child or something." He scoffed to her in a whisper.
'Oh no', Amara thought to herself. She knew that if Leo was sent to his room and obliged with it, that this was serious. Since Leo was 21, their parents have allowed him to be the adult he wants to be, and he hasn't been sent him to his room since he was in his early teens.
"Dad just slammed the door in his face, so I would give it a few more minutes to let him calm down." Leo warned.
