Angel
I chugged down the second glass of alcohol without a second thought.
“You should stop already, Angel,” my friend Jessica whispered as she took the empty glass from my hand.
I didn't stop her, but neither was I in the mood to listen to her advice.
“You shouldn't be this way about ending your bond with Cally. He doesn't deserve it,” she whispered.
“I am not mourning his loss, Jessica,” I replied immediately, as if saying those words aloud would somehow alleviate the pain I felt inside.
I had bent myself backwards for Cally, hoping that everything I sacrificed would eventually make him see my worth. For five years, I had sacrificed so much for him, yet in the end, I hadn't even amounted to someone he could spare a little respect for.
“Angel,” Jessica continued before I could even find the words to explain why I was in such a foul mood.
“Right now, you should be more worried about the bond he refused to accept your rejection of. And with that bond comes his authority as an Alpha. There are only two ways to end it.”
I raised my head, staring at her. Despite the alcohol I had consumed, I was still sober, and none of its effects had begun to cloud my mind.
“What is the first?” I asked.
“The first is to wait until he decides to accept your rejection. That's the only time the mark he gave you during your bond ceremony will break.”
I stared around the room, already knowing that waiting for Cally to do anything in my favor would be impossible.
“And what is the second?”
Jessica stared at me for a while before continuing.
“The second is for you to find someone powerful enough to sever the bond and break Cally's claim on you.”
She paused, studying my face before speaking again.
“Your wolf is already troubled, Angel. If you fail to find someone who can help you, or a witch doctor powerful enough to stabilize your wolf, things might turn ugly. Especially now that you've rejected Cally.”
I didn't know what to say or why I had made that decision so quickly, but one thing I was certain of was that I hadn't made the wrong choice by rejecting him.
It was long overdue.
“I am going to find a solution to my problem,” I told her honestly.
I was sure I would find one, and I was going to do whatever it took to make that happen.
Jessica stared at me for a while, as though she wanted to say something else, but before she could, her phone began to ring. She glanced at the screen, then stood up and turned to leave.
I said nothing as I watched her walk away, remaining seated with my thoughts.
I had to find someone powerful enough to help me before it was too late. Before I lost my wolf, even though I had spent years waiting for her to awaken fully again after I sacrificed her essence for who never deserved it.
The thought alone made my chest tighten.
Suddenly, something began to churn around my legs. I tried to control it, but the strange sensation only grew stronger, spreading through my body until I could barely remain still.
This was the first time I had felt it with such intensity.
It wasn't the first time I had experienced something like this, but it was the first time it had become so overwhelming that I could no longer control myself.
“Am I in heat?” I asked myself as I forced myself to stand, determined to leave the club before anyone found out what was happening to me.
I had never experienced this before because of how feeble my wolf was. Could rejecting Cally have made her more active?
The thought alone frightened me.
It was easy to expose myself in this state, and being in a place like this, I knew I wouldn't be safe for long.
It wouldn't take much time before the men around me noticed what was happening and began taking advantage of my vulnerability.
I moved as quickly as I could, desperately trying to get out before things got worse.
Unfortunately, some men had already begun following me despite my efforts to keep them away.
I quickened my pace, but the strange sensation coursing through my body made it increasingly difficult to control myself or walk faster. I needed to get out of there before my wolf completely took over.
Just when I thought I might escape, I found myself standing before a feral wolf.
The man in front of me was struggling to control his wolf, but he was still shifting, his body caught halfway between his human form and his wolf.
He seemed unable to control the transformation, and the sight only heightened my anxiety.
“Come on, it's better to come with us,” one of the men following me said from behind.
I said nothing, knowing perfectly well that I was in trouble.
“Compared to a feral wolf, we're a much better option for you,”the other man whispered, laughing mockingly. “I promise we won't hurt you. We'll be gentle and slow with it.”
His words did nothing to reassure me. The look in his eyes told me that he had no intention of letting me go without getting what he wanted.
Instead of stopping, I rushed towards the wolf in front of me, wrapping my arms around him as tightly as I could.
His body shifted back into human form immediately.
He was middle-aged, and as I stared at him, I couldn't shake off the feeling that I knew him from somewhere.
“Young woman,” he whispered, his voice cold and electric.
He turned towards the men chasing me and a single stare from them suddenly made them fall to their knees, further shocking me.
If he could force two wolves to their knees without lifting a finger or even making them run away after, then he might be powerful enough to help me, I told myself.
I said nothing.
Instead, acting on an impulse I couldn't explain, I covered his lips with mine, capturing him in a kiss that he didn't immediately break away from.
