I woke up with a smile on my face, having dreamed of my green eyed best friend with the most dazzling grin.
My peace came crashing down, though, when my mother knocked on my door. Her eyes had dark circles beneath them, her hands twisted nervously, "Dani, get dressed then come meet your father and I in his study."
I furrowed my brow, "Mom....is everything ok?" Things had been rough between my parents for years now, that was no secret, but today I could sense true fear from her.
She gave me a teary eyed smile, her hand caressing my face, "When has anything been ok my love?" She let her hand drift back down to her side then turned and walked away.
I closed my door, leaning on it for support. Dread filled me until I felt like throwing up,
Raven, I called to my wolf, What's going on?
I don't know, love, but we will face it together. I am right here with you, came her loving reply.
I showered and got ready with shaking hands. I sat at my vanity, my bright blue eyes stared back at me, haunted with fear. I put on light make up and brushed out my long silver hair that matched my mother's perfectly. My heart filled with sorrow as I thought back to the days when I loved my father dearly, instead of the way I hated and feared him now. He used to be my hero.
But that image of him died the day he attacked Night Fang, Luca's coven. He was out for blood and didn't care if it was the blood of children as long as someone paid for the death of my big brother. Going so far as to use me to get to Luca himself.
We were six years old.
I helped my father lure him out just to watch him get an arrow to the chest.
I shook my head to clear my dark thoughts. I took a deep breath. A smile came to my lips as I recalled the time Luca had my back, calling my brother out and setting him straight....
You're an i***t if you think Dani is weak
I squared my shoulders, brushing my long straight hair down my back. I would face whatever this was with strength and bravery. What more could my father do to make my life worse?
I had severely underestimated my father's level of betrayal.
Upon entering his office, I shuddered at the dark wooden walls and stiff leather chairs. My father was seated behind his looming mahogany desk. His piercing blue eyes locked on mine and a glimmer of a smile graced his lips.
I pulled my gaze away from him to find a strange, intimidating man leaning against the far wall, sipping a stiff drink. His heated stare made me want to cover myself up from his prying eyes.
My mother appeared at my side and grasped my hand tightly. She tugged me toward Father as he rose to his feet
"Daniella, this is alpha Andrew," my father introduced me to the older man who gave me the creeps.
Mr. Creep downed the rest of his drink before slinking over to me. He had a terrifying smile as he raised one of my hands to his lips, "Daniella , you are more beautiful than I thought possible!"
"It's Dani," I said as I recoiled my hand back from him.
His grin widened, "And strong too. We'll have to work on that attitude but she will make a fine Luna for Blake."
My heart skipped a beat in panic. I whipped my head to my father in disgust, "What is he talking about father?" I snapped.
My father narrowed his eyes at me, "Alpha Andrew and I are going to unify our packs to make a powerhouse of a pack. To do that, you will take his son Blake as a chosen mate."
My heart dropped, "I'm not yet 18! I haven't even gotten the opportunity to find my fated mate!" I shrieked at him. "How could you take that from me?!"
"Don't you raise your voice to me!" He growled, slamming his hands down on his desk with all his might. "It is your duty as my only heir to take care of this pack! This is the best way!"
I held his glare with my own, "According to you! How dare you take that decision away from me! This is my life we're talking about!"
"Dani," alpha Andrew said, his voice sickeningly sweet, "We are not asking anything of you right now, sweet girl. I just needed to meet you to see if you are fit for my son. And I am more than convinced of that now."
He came closer, stroking my hair all the way down, "You'll come around my dear. You will see that Blake is a worthy mate. No one relies on finding their fated one anymore Daniella." I could feel his hot breath against my cheek, making me shiver.
"I apologize for my daughter's disrespect alpha," my father snipped coldly. "Daniella you are dismissed!"
I turned and stormed out, not wanting them to see the tears that filled my eyes. I held it together just long enough to sprint out the packhouse door.
