The Loft

The Loft I sit near Casey on the floor of a bookstore we both enjoy-The Loft. We usually come here at least every Saturday but usually, we meet at the bookstore every other day unless we're busy. "Check this out." Casey urges, poking me with his pen. I glance up from my book to look at him expectantly. "What?" I ask, slightly irritated that he interrupted my reading, again. He lifts his own book to my face as if expecting me to read it or something. I arch a brow at him before rolling my eyes and glancing down at the book, reading over the text briefly. I study the image of a carved white marble statue that supposedly depicts a Greek Oread Echo, or so the caption says. "So?" I prompt Casey as I run read over the text once more. It just explains what Echo was in Greek mythology and what happened to her. "Isn't that awesome?" Casey asks excitedly while I quirk a brow at him in question. "Uh, sure if your definition of awesome is being forced to only repeat the last word someone says because some goddess got mad at her. Then, in that case, I guess it would be awesome." I add with an eye roll, shoving the book out of my face so I can continue reading my own book. "It is awesome." He states matter-of-factually. "Right. Well, it doesn't matter. You need to get back to studying, don't keep showing me everything, make notes." I order. He's supposed to be writing a ten page paper on Greek mythology, in less than a week. And I, of course, have to write a ten page paper on human behavior around music. Which is one of the main reasons why we're here in the book store, we're supposed to be studying. "I don't want to study, it's boring." He whines. I roll my eyes at him but I shouldn't be surprised, he has a short attention span which is a bad trait when he's supposed to be working. "Just study, or else you won't pass," I mutter. He groans and drops his book to the floor, though he puts his pen in the pages in place of a bookmark so as not to lose his place. "Make me." He challenges, staring intently at me. "Shh." I shush him and push him back without even sparing him a glance. "Ugh, come on." He whines and finally flops down with his head in my lap, his body laying haphazardly across the floor. When I glance down I can't help but notice the way his dark hair is cascading around my blue jeans, his green eyes staring up at me with a bright light shining through them. And being so close to him I can smell the smallest hint of his cologne along with the minty smell of the mint he had previously been eating. I sigh though, ignoring the electricity jolting throughout my body from his touch, ignoring the thoughts prompting me to give him my entire attention. "Come on, get up and study." I urge, poking his side and making him yelp. He glares up at me and I just roll my eyes again, a habit I've developed from long term exposure to Casey. "Haven't you ever thought of what it would be like if we got together?" He questions seriously, curiously. My eyes snap down to look at him in surprise, and admittedly a bit of panic, forgetting completely about studying as I toss my book to the floor. I stare intensely into his bright green eyes, trying to figure out what he's planning. "What do you mean? We are together, right now we're together." I add, trying not to show any of my panic and instead stay nonchalant. "You know that's not what I mean." He murmurs. Then, before I even realize it, his right hand is resting against the soft gray material of my shirt, shooting more sparks through me. "I can't hold back anymore, and I can see you can't either. So why don't we give it a try?" He purrs, running his hand up my shirt until it's cupping my cheek. He sits up and connects our lips, but the kiss is so brief I barely have time to even process it. He pulls back to stare into my eyes once more and a grin breaks onto his face while I stare at him, still surprised by his admission. "Dustin, if you don't say anything soon I'm going to think you didn't like that and I interpreted your feelings towards me wrong," Casey states, pulling further away from me. "No." I blurt and his face falls but he smiles quickly. "Oh right, well then we should probably get back to-" "No I mean, not no. I mean, well no, but not no as in you interpreted my feelings wrong. No as in yes." I stutter and he stares at me in confusion. "What?" He questions and I sigh, knowing if I say anything else I'll just sound like an i***t and I'll probably mess it all up. So instead I pull his face to me, kissing him on the lips as he did moments ago. It's a quick kiss, but I'm pretty sure from the relieved look on his face that he gets what I'm trying to say but can't put into words, as he always can. "Yes, I want to try this too." I murmur, pecking him on the lips once more. "Good." He smiles lightly and then we continue studying. Though, knowing I don't have to hold anything back from Casey anymore makes me smile lightly to myself, knowing we'll be together for a very long time.
