“Well, what are you staring at?” the tall one with the scarf says to get things started. “Was it you who smashed the car’s windscreen?” “Who else?” They’re amused by the naivety of the question. There is nothing more to be said. But they behave strangely, running behind the rocks and starting to make threats. “That’s just for starters,” says the one with the bright scarf. “You talk to her again, and we’ll smash your head in!” So that’s who they are: competing admirers, rivals, or something of the kind. If I chase them, I could catch one or even all of them (if they have any sense of comradeship, that is) and give them a thrashing. But to judge from their manners, these young guys are capable of any filthy trick, and then they’ll take it out on her. What is this anyway — are all three
