Mia stood there, gripping her glass of wine, her heart racing. 'So, this is what love at first sight feels like, like being struck by Cupid's arrow.'
He leaned casually against the railing, his expression aloof, holding a cocktail. The side profile of his face seemed as if it had been meticulously crafted by the hands of God.
'God must have been incredibly biased when He made him.'
Later, he became her husband. He was young and handsome, always courteous and compliant. As she walked into the church, holding a bouquet and looking at the man she loved most, Mia felt there could be no greater happiness in the world!
Remembering this, Mia even smiled in her sleep.
But as she dreamed, Cameron rushed home and entered the living room, catching sight of his wife smiling softly in her sleep.
"Heh." Cameron sneered, recalling her threatening tone over the phone. "Pathetic woman. Who knows what kind of dream you're having."
To him, Mia was as despicable as his father, both wielding family influence to coerce others into submission.
In reality, the seemingly sweet and beautiful marriage Mia cherished was nothing more than a business arrangement. Her father knew her better than anyone. To give his little rose a surprise, he dangled a multi-million-dollar project to lure Cameron's family into cooperation, seizing control of their cash flow and using it to force them into this grand wedding.
Cameron had no choice but to marry Mia to solve his family's financial crisis.
This proud man with green eyes had despised his wife since the day they exchanged vows.
Mia groggily opened her eyes and saw her husband. Her mind was still in the dream of their wedding, and she softly called out, "Cameron..."
"You called me back just to try and conceive my baby so you can cling to my family, right?"
Cameron's cold gaze swept over her lace nightgown, which had ridden up in her sleep. He grabbed her chin roughly, his other hand roaming her body with no hint of gentleness.
"Ugh!"
Still sensitive from sleep, Mia's body shivered under his sudden touch. She tried to resist as his hand slid under her underwear.
"Ah!"
His long fingers easily found her most intimate place, coaxing out sweet juices. Having been neglected for so long, the poor Mia was quickly overwhelmed by desire. Tears welled in her eyes as she looked up at her husband, pleading, "Not... here."
Cameron chuckled. "It seems your body is more honest than your mouth." Ignoring her pleas, Cameron withdrew his hand, now wet, and pushed her away, heading upstairs alone.
"Cameron!"
Mia clutched the couch cover tightly, watching him walk away, a sense of helplessness washing over her.
"I hate you, Cameron!" she shouted at his unfeeling back and then curled up on the couch, overwhelmed by a mix of lingering desire and tears until she fell into a restless sleep.
The next morning, the house was eerily empty. Left on the coffee table, her phone beeped with a new message.
It was from honey.
Cameron: Do you think the Alden family can still protect you now? If you hate me so much, you have two choices walk away with nothing or stay home obediently, and I'll make sure you're taken care of for the rest of your life.
His words, cold and devoid of emotion, tore at Mia's soul.
Finally, she clenched her fists, standing up resolutely and heading for the bathroom.
'It is time to end this.'
She put on a dark red strapless dress, her blonde hair falling in loose waves over her shoulders. Her Gino Choo heels clicked against the floor, adding a confident edge to her look.
Staring at the refined yet sensuous woman in the mirror, Mia smiled confidently, but it quickly faded as her heart clenched with doubt.
She was dressing up like this just to discuss a divorce.
Mia took a deep breath at the hotel's presidential suite before pressing the doorbell.
But the person who answered the door wasn't Cameron. It was a woman wrapped in a bathrobe, her cheeks flushed unnaturally.
She was one of the regular models for the Victoria's Secret shows in recent years. She was not particularly beautiful but undeniably sexy.
The crumpled carpet and clothes strewn across the sofa told Mia everything she needed to know about what had happened before she arrived.
"Cameron's in the shower. If you have something to say, you can tell me," she said sweetly, but her words carried an unmistakable challenge.
"I wasn't aware that he had a new mistress. I need to see Cameron. Get him out here," Mia said calmly, setting her bag beside her and taking a seat on the opposite couch with grace.
Mia's disregard infuriated the woman, causing her to lose her composure. The anger in the woman's eyes flared, and she nearly lost control.
"Do you even know who I am? I am the one Cameron truly loves! I'm the one who delivered your message to him last night!"
Before she could finish, Mia interrupted smoothly, "If he doesn't come out, I'll pull my investment and sever all ties between our families. By tomorrow, this will be all over the news."
She was certain that Cameron, still in the shower, could hear every word she said.
Cameron heard every word. He couldn't help but be intrigued by this sudden change in Mia's demeanor.
'Gone is the timid woman who tolerated everything. This has to be my imagination.'
"Get out." Cameron appeared, wrapped in only a towel. His body, sculpted by years of training, was a work of art, each muscle defined and alluring.
"Haven't you heard what Cameron said? Are you deaf?" She clung to his arm, taunting Mia.
"Get lost!" Cameron snapped, shaking off her hand in disgust.
Only then did she realize that he was telling her to leave. Humiliated and angry, she stomped out of the suite.
Time seemed to freeze as the room fell into an awkward silence.
"So, have you decided to leave with nothing?" Cameron finally broke the quiet.
It had been so long since they'd had a peaceful conversation, yet here they were, discussing divorce. 'How ironic.'
Before Mia could respond, his phone rang, reminding him of an upcoming meeting.
"This is your living allowance," he said, tossing a blank check onto the table. "Write whatever number you want. My lawyer will deliver the divorce papers."
Mia watched the man she had once known so well put on his clothes, each movement refined and confident. He was still as dashing as ever, like the bachelor she had first fallen for.
But he was never meant to be hers.
"Oh, and as a parting gift." Cameron paused at the door, his hand on the doorknob. Mia couldn't see his expression. "You should check the suite next door."
Then, he walked out.
Mia stood outside the adjacent suite, hesitating. 'A gift? I had never received a gift from Cameron before.'
Yet, she turned the knob and opened the Pandora's box waiting inside.
The room was pitch black, the door clicking shut behind her. Mia fumbled for the light switch in the dark, her heart pounding.
"Excuse me, beautiful lady, could you help me out?"
A male voice broke the silence, making Mia scream as she stumbled back, collapsing against the wall.
The motion-activated lights at the entrance flickered on, revealing a man lying on the bed, bound hand and foot. Mia quickly stood up, turning on the lights fully and grabbing a vase for protection, only to realize she didn't need it. The man was completely restrained and unable to move.
He was clearly in pain, beads of sweat forming on his forehead, but he maintained a calm, courteous demeanor.
Gathering her courage, Mia leaned in closer and found herself face-to-face with a man who was every bit as handsome as Cameron, another masterpiece of divine creation.
'But how had he become Cameron's gift to me? What on earth was going on?'
"Who are you?" Mia stammered, her voice trembling with uncertainty.
