Chapter 14

*Klaus’s POV*

I couldn’t sleep after what I saw last night. I was truly scared. I was shaking Aria repeatedly and called out her name, but she wasn’t waking up. Why? Why did she have this dream?. Thoughts and questions were going on in my head. After she woke up I felt this part of me that was relieved. I was relieved that she finally woke up. There is only one thing that didn’t go away, curiosity. When Aria went back to sleep I saw Nick out of his door staring at Aria. The door was cracked, so I got up and checked on him. 

“Hey Nick, You okay?”, I said tiredly. “Yeah, it’s just Aria”, he managed to say after some time standing there. “What do you mean”, I was now curious. “Something in the past, some f****d up s**t happened. I know most of it but I was little and younger so I may get confused. But what I have searched up and learned, she’s dealing with it in an unhealthy way.”, he sighed. “What happened”, I asked. “Let’s just say trauma, I read about PTSD and it looks like she is experiencing them. Although I’m just a kid, I chatted with a therapist online, and she thinks it’s PTSD too.”, he said. “How long has this been happening?”, I asked. I know he doesn’t want to tell me, I even asked. But it would be better to hear it from her. I don’t want him to feel forced to tell me. “Uhh the first time I heard it was like two years ago, it became more frequently though.”, he sighed. “It was so messed up, everything went down the drain after, our family and happiness.”, he added. We stood there for a bit. 

“She never shared it with you?”, I asked while breaking the silence. “She never really spoke about it, our mother would say things that relate to the day, about how it’s her fault.”, he said crossing his arms. “Why do you come out of your room? Do you usually come out when she’s having these nightmares?”, I asked. “Yeah, everytime I hear them. I get out my bed and stand by the door and watch. Sometimes she would wake up and cry. I don’t know how to respond to it. Im the little brother in the family.”, he said before continuing. “Klaus, our family isn’t the great you would expect. Our family doesn’t have feelings, we don’t express what we love or hate. I’m trying to break that. What I do have to say is, it’s not easy for Aria. She struggles and she protects me from everything, even our mom and a particular person.”, he stopped. “Nick, what does she struggle with?”, I asked. 

I never knew this, Nick is more mature than kids his age and in his grade. I guess I have Aria to thank for that. Although he isn’t my brother, he feels like a little bro to me. 

“She struggles with a lot, not just your guy's relationship. But with other things, money, family, her past, her own issues, and anything else is going on in her head. I know she fights, I followed her one day and saw it happened. I think it was yesterday or whenever you guys were yelling at school. I was there. I saw her got punched and she got back up and fought. She didn’t stop after a while. From her fighting, she’s dealing with”, Nick stopped until we both said the same-thing. “anger”, we both said in unison. “She’s dealing with so much, I want to take it away but I can’t, she does everything for me, to protect me. Also Klaus, she’s the strongest person I know. Aria is more like a mother to me, than my own mom. She’s suffering and I don’t know how to help. She doesn’t show it, but when she is in her room alone. She writes and cries. She sings and plays her guitar. When she is ready to share, she will.”, he finished. I saw a tear come out of his eye. 

I know this hurts him because it hurts me too. I gave him a hug because we both needed it. After the hug, Nick went back into his room. I went back to bed with Aria. I hugged her and thought about the things that happened. My thoughts were rambling until I finally fell asleep. 

“Wake up sleepy head”, I was woken up by Aria. “You hungry?”, she asked. “Yeah, I’ll pick something up for us. But come here”, I opened my arms to hug her. “When you're ready to tell me what happened, I will be here to listen and be here for you to lean on”, I kissed her forehead. She nodded and went to the bathroom. I looked at the time and it was an hour before school. 

I saw Nick leaving. “Hey Nick”, I shouted while chasing him down. He stopped and I caught up to him. “About Aria, when I’m not here can you keep her comfort?”, I asked. I felt bad when she had no one. “Yeah, as I said last night I was going to try to break this no-emotion type of family”, he said. “Thanks, man. You’re a wonderful brother. See you at school”, I patted his shoulder. “Yeah, see ya”, he smiled. I headed back up to get Aria.

“Ready to go?”, I asked Aria. “Yeah, just let me get my keys”, she went back into her room. 

Thoughts kept coming but I tried to push some aside. When she was screaming, she screamed ‘NO’. Why?. She also screamed ‘STOP’. Was she abused? Was she in trouble? Was she ……raped?. I didn’t even want to imagine that. Just by that thought makes me want to hurt that person. No one deserves that. 

“Okay. I’m ready”, she came back down. “Babe, you okay”, she asked which finally caught my attention. “Yeah, I was just thinking”, I tried to say like nothing happened but I couldn’t. It was just the thought that made my face in an expression of hatred. “I’m sorry”, she said. “Why? What for?”, I stopped in front of her. “For the occupancy of curiosity in your mind of why I had a nightmare last night”, she said. “No, it’s fine. I love to have you in my mind. And whenever you're ready to share with me, then I’ll listen. Take your time, love”, I cupped her cheeks and kissed her lips. 

We both got in the car and left.

We arrived at school and we were welcomed with Emma bullying Liv again. “ENOUGH”, I shouted. “Quit picking on Liv or anyone for the matter. They don’t deserve this. Emma you're a Sophomore act like one.”, I said with venom. I look to my right to see Nick on the ground. Now that just made me furious. “Nick you okay?”, Aria bent down to see if he was hurt badly. He nodded but grunted. “What’s wrong”, I asked Aria. “Looks like his side is going to be bruised and going to have a bruised cheek”, she managed to say while keeping her anger controlled. Our group suddenly came behind us. “Nick”, Jade and Mia said in unison. “Stay with them”, Aria said. They nodded. Oh s**t. “Axel stayed with Jade and Mia”, I said. He nodded. They know what’s next. “Who did this?”, Aria said looking at Emma and her girls. No one responded. “I SAID WHO DID THIS?”, she shouted. She was mad you could hear it. People began to part and show a boy and his group. I was trying to figure out who they were. “He deserved it you know”, Emma smirked. “Yeah”, Ava said. “HE IS A GRADE YOUNGER THAN YOU EMMA!”, She yelled. “Hey Ava maybe you should explain why you have the bruise on your cheek?”, Jade stood up and smiled. “I fell”, Ava managed to say while trying to hide it. “Actually I think it was because Aria punched the f**k out of you? Didn’t she?”, Mia smirked. I was surprised that she said that. Ava stayed quiet. 

“He deserved it, he was trying to trash talk my girl. See no one does that.”, Jake Rewin said. He’s on the football team. He was the other jock, The one that Ezra doesn’t hang with. “WHAT?”, I shouted while he came to me. Face to face. “Yeah, he deserved it. What are you going to do about it”, he smirked. “This”, I smirked. All my anger finally rose. 

I pushed him in the jaw which knocked him in the ground. “Watch out”, Conner yelled. I turned around to see Conner block the punch from one of the other guys in the group. They really tried to jump me. I turned back and kicked Jake to the floor. He managed to get up and punch me right at the jaw. I punched him right back in the eye. Another punch to the jaw, and another to the chest. I got tackled to the ground after that. When I landed on the ground, I saw Aria fighting Ava while Emma tried fighting her. Next I was brought back to the guy getting tackled by Ezra that was on me. I got back up and I went back to Jake. He was getting up till I grabbed him by the collar and shoved him against the lockers. I threw a right hook to his ribs. I didn’t do it that hard to fracture it, just enough to bruise it. “Do that s**t again, I promise you next time isn’t going to be pretty”, I said in his ear with venom. “So you're going to threaten me?”, Jake managed to say while gasping for air. “No, it’s a promise”, I said walking away. Another guy tackled me to the ground but Axel started to knock the s**t out of him. I got up off the ground and made my way to Aria. HOLY s**t. She was going to beat the daylights out of Ava and Emma. I pulled Aria away. “Calm down”, I whispered in her ear. “Hey, calm down”, I said again, which managed to snap her out of her trance. We both met eyes with Cal, well uhm Mr. Cal, my uncle. He’s the principle of the school.  

“MY OFFICE NOW!”, Mr. Cal yelled. Which made Conner, Axel, Ezra, and Aria, and I grunt. This isn’t going to be good. This is going to be all over social media because I saw people with their phones after I stopped Aria. 

“Klaus Wood, You first”, Cal said. Cal led the way to his office. “Alright, they guys picked on my girlfriend's brother. The others were trash talking and we put them in their place”, I said smiling. Cal always gets frustrated with me. “That isn’t a reason for violence at my school”, he said. “You mean to tell me that hurting a grade younger isn’t a reason. He was on the ground when we arrived. WHERE WERE YOU WHEN THAT HAPPEN? HUH? I DIDN’T SEE YOU DO ANYTHING? DOING NOTHING IS SILENT, WHICH MEANS COMPLYING. YOU ALWAYS SPEAK ABOUT STANDING UP. THAT'S WHAT I DID!”, I yelled at him. “Don’t yell at me, I’m your uncle and principal. I’m going to call your parents and everyone is suspended for 3 days'', he said. “What about the others who actually hurted Nick?”, I asked. “I will deal with them”, he said. “Whatever”, I walked out and stood by Aria. I was irritated, he was never fair. I was fine with the suspension but if the assholes didn’t get more than us, then that’s just some bull s**t. 

It was Aria's turn next. I saw Ezra and walked toward him. “Thanks, man. I appreciate what you did.”, I put my hand out for a shake. “Yeah no problem, they are assholes anyway”, he chuckled. “Yeah, they are. They are f*****g wankers. “They crossed the line when they messed with Aria’s little brother, or any younger kid”, he said. “Yeah”, I managed to say after clenching my jaw. To even imagine Ezra trying to get with Aria. Although I appreciate his help. Without him, I would’ve gotten jumped. I may be buff but not enough to beat up 2 buff guys who are on the football team. “Yeah, that was nice man”, Axel said. “Yeah thanks boys, and Ezra again.”, I said nodding my head. “Yeah, anytime bro”, Conner said, while Axel and Ezra nodded. I think we all might develop a bruise but within 3 days of suspension, we're good. 

Finally after 10 minutes, Aria comes out.
