The day finally arrived when Safiya was turning ten, it was her tenth birthday celebration and she was anxiously awaiting the arrival of her mother. She paced in her room wearing the beautiful dress her father had the seamstress make for her. It was a gown fit for a princess, it was black and red, and it spun with her when she twirled.
Her long white hair was curled and halfway pinned back, she wore the crown and necklace her mother had gotten her the year before. Finally, after what felt like forever her father came and got her.
“It's time little warrior, let’s go see your mother, she will be here shortly.” Aries tells Safiya taking her hand and escorting her to the ballroom.
Safiya took a deep breath and went with her father to go and finally meet her mother...
Bastet was anxiously waiting in the ballroom for Safiya and Aries to come in, but she wasn't alone. She had brought an old friend with her, someone who she wanted to meet her daughter.
“Breathe Bastet, you will see her in a minute, and she will love you.” Anubis the Egyptian God of War tells her.
Bastet gives him a smile, “I know I just am getting excited.”
At that moment, the doors open and she turns to look. Safiya and Aries come through the doors, a big smile on Aries face, a nervous look on Safiya 's. When Safiya sees Bastet she immediately knows, that's her mom. She gets a big smile on her face and when Bastet smiles at her she runs into her mother's waiting arms.
They embraced for a long moment and Bastet kissed the top of her daughter's head and whispered, “Finally.”
Safiya looked at her mother and smiled, “Hi mom.”
“Hello, my dearest one, I have been waiting for this for so long, and now that I finally get to see you, I'm never going to leave your side.” Bastet tells her.
Safiya smiles, “I've been waiting for you to mom. I'm glad you're here.”
Anubis clears his throat, Safiya and Bastet had forgotten everyone else in the room. They both laugh and then Bastet takes her daughters hand, “Come little one I want you to meet someone.”
She walks her over to Anubis, “This is Anubis, he is a God of War like your daddy is. He has been waiting to meet you.”
Safiya looks at Anubis and smiles, “Hello Anubis.”
Anubis smiles at her, and there is something in his smile that makes her think that this is not their first-time meeting. Anubis was happy to meet Safiya, this was the first time he got to meet her and not just her soul. Although, in his mind meeting persons soul was just as good as meeting them in person.
Anubis knew her soul very well, he had spent a long time with her in his realm, but that would be something that she would find out later, once her memories returned and Anubis planned on being there for her when it happened, he knew what those types of memories could do to a person. For now, though he would just enjoy watching her grow.
It ended up being a wonderful celebration, especially with the arrival of Bastet, the had a very modern party, Aries loved to barbeque and made it a point to be silly just to make Safiya laugh. All decked out in a chef’s hat and apron he grilled hamburgers and chicken, Safiya's favorite food. Her father made a great spectacle of grilling and it had her and Bastet laughing and shaking their heads.
But then the conversation turned serious and Safiya had to know the truth.
“Mom, can I ask you something?” She asks quietly.
Bastet already knew what was coming and she readied herself for the question, “Of course my dear, ask away.”
“Why couldn't you stay with me? Why did you have to go?” Safiya asks.
Bastet let out a deep sigh, “Sometimes there are things that are out of our control. When a Goddess has a child, she is forced to be away from that child, so she does not forget the importance of her duties as a Goddess. Gods never have the same attachment to their children as Goddesses do, and sometimes those attachments make us forget what we are supposed to be doing. So as a rule, we must spend the first ten years focused solely on our obligations. Then once that time has passed and we have proven we can handle the responsibilities and our child; only then do we get to be with them. Sadly, this only happens with the first-born child. So, you ended up being the one that got left without me for ten years, and I’m sorry for that, but if I didn't do my job there would-be consequences.” Bastet explains to her.
Safiya was even more curious, “What kind of consequences?”
Bastet shook her head, “You are too young to find out, but one day soon when you manage to harness all your powers and are ready to take your place as a Goddess, then and only then will you find out.”
Although this was slightly annoying for Safiya, now she didn't care, her mother had done her duties and now got to be with her and that was all that mattered.
Safiya's life was complete, she had a happy family, both her parents now and she was on her way to becoming a Goddess. What could go wrong?...
