Present day Present dayI rub my face with my hand, dragging slick wetness across my cheek. I let out a sigh. The wound on my cheek must have opened up while I was sleeping. I throw back my sheets and climb out of bed. I glance back at the pillowcase, relieved to see I haven"t bled all over the linen. Trying to get blood out of the bedclothes is always an extra chore I"d prefer not to do. I pad over to the small ensuite bathroom and pull out the cotton balls from under the sink. I catch a glance of myself in the mirror and wince at the smear of red across my cheek. It"s probably worse than it looks. Water trickles into the sink, filling it with lukewarm water. From experience, I"ve learned that"s the best for treating small cuts. I dip the cotton wool in the water and lift it to my che
