Chapter 4Claire Munro Two days later, they led the young woman up onto a platform that had been constructed in the middle of the square. She was tall-ish, and thin but defined biceps filled the simple white T-shirt she wore, and I saw her shiver in the morning chill. Her skin was tanned, which made her green eyes appear even brighter, and her light brown hair was pulled back in a messy braid. In the three years I’d been at the city, I’d never been privy to a soldier’s public punishment and while I knew it happened, it certainly wasn’t something I condoned.
