Chapter 20Eventually, Red Woman hobbled over shooing everyone, myself included, out of the way. She nestled in between the captain and I, cooing over her and rubbing her arm, stuffing small bits of meat into her mouth every now and then like a mother bird feeding its young. The captain took it all in stride, genuinely enjoying the old woman’s attention as one would any grandmother. As the night grew late, the old woman rose and barked a few orders at Wolf Woman before taking the captain by the arm and leading her toward a group of people just out of the fire’s brightest light.
