19. Sincere Apologies

____________________ . . . Like the day after they had s*x for the first time, June woke up to Heath incessantly booping her nose. "Stop that!" She swatted his hand away. Heath's laugh was low and warm, his eyes crinkling at the corners as he grinned down at her. "I missed you," he said, his voice still thick with sleep. "We didn't talk for what, one day?" Now that she thought about it, she hated that she folded so easily, but she couldn't resist his charms. "And what does that even mean in your language?" Heath's smile grew sheepish. "It means that I realized how much of an i***t I was," he said, his eyes searching hers. "And that I don't ever want to lose you." June blushed. June was not a person who easily blushed. But ever since she met this man, it was all she was ever doing when she was not being absolutely fabulous. "Come on, let's get ready," Heath said, standing up and stretching. "We've got a big day ahead of us." "Yeah, we have some files to go through." June nodded, getting off the bed from the other side. "Files?" Heath turned to her in all his naked splendor. "What files? We are not going into the office today!" June paused in the middle of picking up her clothes from the floor. "What do you mean we are not going to work?" Heath chuckled, walking over to her and wrapping his arms around her waist. "It's off-day, baby," he whispered in her ear, sending a shiver down her spine. "We're going to spend the day together. Just you and me." June's eyes widened. "But... work!" she protested weakly. "Forget about work," Heath said, his voice firm but gentle. "Today is about us." June looked up at him, the protest dying on her lips. She had to admit, the idea of spending a whole day with Heath without the shadow of the office was tempting. She nodded slowly, a smile creeping across her face. "Okay," she said. "But just for today." "I can't promise you that!" He grinned earning a light punch on his chest from his girlfriend. . . . "Girlfriend?" Laura was squealing on the other side of the phone. Heath was in the kitchen putting together a late breakfast after their amazing morning s*x and June was in the bathrooom, letting her best friend know about the latest development. "Well, he didn't exactly say that." June bit her lip. "But he did say he missed me and doesn't want to lose me just this morning, even if I am getting yesterday's conversation wrong because I was drunk. So it got to mean something right?" Laura's squeal was so high pitched that June had to hold the phone away from her ear. "Oh my god, June! You have to tell me everything!" June couldn't help but smile at Laura's excitement. "Well, we talked," she said, her voice a little shaky. "And he said he's sorry and that he doesn't want to lose me." "And?" Laura prodded, excited like a child. "How was the make-up s*x?" June rolled her eyes. "It was good, okay?" she said, trying to keep her voice down. "But that's not the point. We need to figure out what to do about work." Laura's excitement didn't waver. "Oh, come on," she said. "You can't tell me that after everything that happened, you're not at least a little bit happy." June sighed, leaning against the wall. "I am," she admitted. "But I'm also scared. What if this is just another one of his games?" "You know Heath better than anyone," Laura said, her voice gentle. "What does your gut tell you?" June took a moment to consider her friend's words. Heath had always been a handful, but she had seen glimpses of his kindness and sincerity. Perhaps there was more to him than his playboy facade. "I don't know," she murmured. "But I want to believe he is what he shows himself to be, because Lau, the man I see is perfect even though a little immature." "Well, that's a good start," Laura said with a laugh. "But remember, work is important too." June nodded, her thoughts racing. "I know," she said. "But I also can't ignore my feelings." "And what about George?" Laura's voice was sobering. "What's happening with him?" "The brothers made up, it seems, and apparently George apologized to Heath." June informed her. "Is the apology genuine, is the million dollar question!" Laura let out a low whistle. "I don't know," June said, her eyes focused on the bathroom floor. "But I do know that I don't want to be in the middle of their sibling rivalry or whatever anymore." There was a knock on the door. "You about done, princess?" Heath sounded in a really good mood. A little naughty too. "I am hanging up." June whispered into the phone and placed it on the counter. "Will be out soon after a bath." She called back to him. "I think I should join, for the sake of saving water." Heath said as he turned the knob. "You already took a shower." June rolled her eyes but she did nothing more to protest at the sight of his splendid smile. "Well, I want to make sure you are clean," Heath said, his voice thick with mischief as he sailed through the door. "And I want to make sure you save water," he added with a wink that made June's knees wobble. He reached for her, pulling her into his arms, and she could feel the heat of his body against hers. His kiss was demanding, possessive, and June responded with a passion that surprised even herself. Her hands roamed over his chest, her nails digging in slightly as she felt his erection pressing against her. Without another word, Heath picked her up and carried her into the shower, the hot water cascading over them as he set her down on the tiles. He kissed her again, his tongue exploring her mouth as his hands cupped her ass, lifting her slightly so she could wrap her legs around his waist. "Sorry about this baby but I can't hold it in for too long." He wasted no time, sliding into her without a preamble, making her gasp. The raw, primal passion in his movements sent shockwaves through her body, setting every nerve ending alight. June clung to him, her nails digging into his back as he pounded into her, the water beating against their bodies in time with their frantic rhythm. She could feel herself building towards climax, her breath coming in short gasps. "Heath," she moaned, the sound echoing off the tiles. Heath growled in response, his movements becoming more erratic as he approached his own peak. The heat of the shower was nothing compared to the fire that was building between them. His hands moved to her breasts, teasing and squeezing as she threw her head back, her eyes fluttering closed. He knew exactly how to touch her, how to make her body sing with pleasure. It was as if he could read her mind, anticipating every gasp and moan. June's legs tightened around Heath's waist as he angled himself to hit that perfect spot, the one that made her toes curl and her back arch. The water washed away their inhibitions, leaving only raw, unfiltered desire. His grip on her tightened as he increased his pace, the slap of their bodies echoing in the huge bathroom. June's breath was coming in ragged gasps as she felt herself getting closer to the edge. She tightened her legs around his waist, her heels digging into his back as she met his thrusts with her own. Heath's hand moved from her breast to her throat, gently squeezing as he claimed her mouth again. His other hand found its way between them, his thumb circling her c**t in time with his strokes. June's breath hitched as she felt the first waves of pleasure crash over her, her body tensing around him. Heath's eyes bore into hers, watching her intently as she climaxed. It was as if he derived pleasure from her pleasure, his own orgasm hitting him like a tsunami, his body shuddering as he emptied himself into her. They stood there, breathing heavily, the water cascading around them, as their hearts slowly returned to their normal rhythm. Heath leaned in and kissed her gently, his eyes filled with something that June couldn't quite name. "I'm sorry," he murmured, his voice barely audible over the sound of the water. June looked up at him, her eyes searching his. "For what?" she asked, her voice shaky. "For everything," Heath said, his eyes serious. "For being a d**k, for firing you, for not trusting you." He took a deep breath. "For not being the man you deserve." June felt her heart swell with a mix of love and anger. She didn't want to forgive him so easily, but the sincerity in his voice was hard to ignore. She leaned into him, their bodies still joined, the warm water washing away the last of their passion. "You can't just apologize and expect everything to go back to normal," she whispered. Heath nodded, his forehead resting against hers. "I know," he said, his voice ragged. "But I'm willing to do whatever it takes to make it right." June studied his face, looking for any sign of deceit. But all she saw was earnestness, completely different from the cocky grin she had grown so accustomed to. "Okay," she murmured. "But I need you to understand that I won't tolerate that kind of behavior again." "I do," Heath said, his eyes never leaving hers. "I'll prove it to you." . . . __________________
