Chapter 5

566 Words
Over the Lux River in a time every so queer, armed horsemen crossed into Leaf Lands. Peter looked from the crazy Nymph girl to the convoy and back to her, his eyes asking many questions. Was this an illusion? Was she the one doing this? Perhaps, she was the trying to scare them into bringing back the Nymphs. If she was, he could tell her, it's working. He stared harder at her. "What? Why are you looking at me like that?" Peter looked at the horsemen again. Black robes flow over them like night, their beast ploughing over water like their hoofs didn't touch it. They were crossing the Lux at the point where the water ran into the rocks, over the rapids of Edinlore. Surely, these are not Leaf Wand masters, that is clear from their attire, and how they knew the shallowest point of River Lux calls for deliberation. The young Lord took a mental count. Eighteen horses galloped through, carrying eighteen wand masters looking ever so sinister. They seem to be heading towards the Castle. Hey! They were using the super short secret pass! They only need to take the bend through the burberry gardens, opposite the Lord's orchards and that will lead them directly to the inner courts, to the Sire himself. To Father! Quick, he must carry the message to the guards. Quick! he must warn father! Without thinking, he wadded out of the river and broke into a run. "What do you think you are doing? Where do you think you are going? If you think you are leaving before the Nymphs come ashore, you must be joking" At that, the girl ran after Peter. It took a while for Alex to get hold of his balance and wade out of the river, but eventually he was on their trails too. Peter moved faster than a gazelle. If the intruders were taking the inner pass, he must take the bay route. That route was shut and unknown to many, but he had explore it a few times while avoiding Helps maids. The path leads to the library, if he passes the book door. He could get to father, quicker than the intruders. As he ran he kept an eye on the horses. They galloped with rigour, passing bush after bush with religious purpose. Although, the crazy girl was still in pursuit, he couldn't be bothered about her. He was just running down the bay route when he saw it...red flash of magic. "Terminux!" The guards at the door dropped dead at its wake, and the horsemen unsympathetically trampled over them. Peter gasped. It was as worse than he thought. This was an ambush! They were being attacked! He ran even faster, scrambling over the rough path. If they came for Father (like he seemed they did) he must let him know at once! More red flashes, and again, more guards tumbled to their death. The manner the horsemen dished out death was wickedly precise, like a mad orchestral dueting with death. Now they road over the Lord's Orchards, only a matter of time before they got to the Sire! Not if he did something about it. With the speed they were moving, he won't get to Father in time. He needed to delay them somehow, slow them down, while he sent a massage to Sir Pipers. But how? The Reservoir!
