Cassie started towards me, hips swaying with each step till she stopped a foot away.
“How was work today, dear?” Her fingers lifted to my shoulder.
“What are you doing here?” I asked, tone sharp.
“What do you mean? Can't a girl pay her boyfriend a visit anymore?” She kept her voice slow and sultry. “I was thinking maybe I should spend the night here.”
My face twisted in disgust. “I am not your boyfriend anymore. We broke up already, so stop this shit.” I stepped back so her hand slid off my shoulder, earning a frown.
“Well I've told you I didn't accept the stupid breakup, so will you just forget about it!”
My fist clenched. “You've been saying that for two years already.”
When she rolled her eyes, I frowned. “We are not a couple. Not anymore, and if you're not willing to accept that, then it's your problem.
“But get one thing straight, Cassie… All this s**t you're doing,” I gestured to her in my room, “must never repeat itself.”
“Baby—”
“The next time you come to my house uninvited or even dare step foot into this room,” my words were low, but sharp, “will not only be your last time here, but you'll not be leaving a police station.”
She gasped. “Are you saying you'll arrest me?”
“Try it first, then you'll know the answer.” I moved to the side. “Now get out. And never let this repeat itself.”
Cassie's lips parted, before her eyes shifted to fury as she grabbed her clothes from the couch. “Alright then, keep playing hard to get. But you'll soon figure out that you're just being stupid!”
She stormed out, slamming the door shut behind her.
I rubbed my temples with a head shake, then pulled the shirt over my head just as my phone started to ring.
Finn's name flashed on the screen when I retrieved it.
“Yes?”
“Good evening, sir.”
“What do you want?” My voice was colder than intended, but I didn't bother to care.
As it was, Cassie's presence had succeeded in ruining my mood.
“Sorry to bother you sir, I just wanted to let you know that you have been invited to the number one CEO in the world's daughter's wedding. It's coming up this Saturday.”
“Forget it, I'm not in the mood for celebration.”
I walked over to the floor-to-ceiling windows that held a nice view of California.
Different people walked down the road. Cars drove past them. Buildings lined up beside each other.
But all I could think about was the fact that somewhere among this vast population was a woman that my heart had longed for.
A woman I thought was far from reach.
And now she was here.
“... that's why I think it would be nice, sir.” I didn't realize Finn had been talking. “We can secure a few deals. Right now, the company needs as many as it can get, sir.”
“I already said I will not be going. Don't talk about it again.”
“Oh-Okay, sir.” A low sigh followed, before he added. “Uhm, pardon me for mentioning this, but I-I heard that Miss Red might be attending as well.”
That snapped my attention. “You think Lisa will be there?”
“Yes sir.”
Oh?
That fact alone was enough to brighten my mood, and I almost forgot my irritation towards Cassie.
“Alright then, clear my schedule for Saturday. We'll be at the venue on time.”
“Okay sir.”
I knew I should've been thinking in his direction on how many deals could be made and profits we could incur from the night, but I just couldn't.
Because all my mind filled with was her.

– Lisa Red –
“I got an invite to Carl's daughter's wedding.” I said to Leo and Rachel that evening over dinner.
“Woah, isn't that like the biggest CEO or something like that?” She raised a brow.
“Yeah.”
“I also got one,” Leo said through a mouthful, “we could go together. It'll be fun.”
“Oh please, when has any event ever been fun?”
“That's because you've never been to one with me.” He smiled sheepishly. “I succeed in making anything fun, and you know it.”
I just rolled my eyes. “Well I don't think I'm going.”
“That's so like you.” He leaned back, taking a spoonful of food. “What's your excuse now?”
“It's Saturday, and I want to spend it with my daughter.”
“No,” Rachel interjected, “I told you three days ago that I was taking Rick to Disneyland and you were like ‘Take Imogen with, so I can spend Saturday in my house, doing nothing but relaxing’.” She imitated me perfectly. “So basically, you've got nothing going on.”
My lips pursed at the two always wanting me to get out once in a while.
“Yeah, I want to relax. Not go to some boring place.”
“Oh come on, it'll be fun.” Leo took another spoonful. “And it's been so long since we've gone out. Just the two of us. Let's forget about work for a second, and just have some fun, you boring weirdo.”
I sighed loudly, knowing there was no way the two would let me be.
“Great, so it's settled?” He had a lopsided smile on that made it hard to not rub my forehead.
“Whatever.”
Another event as it was.
