“What the hell is going on?” Cassie's horror filled voice cut through the hall.
“Drex! Why are you all over her, when you should be over me!” She cried out loud.
I wasted no time, before wiggling free of his grip, my face in a deep glare. “You are crossing the lines now, Drex.”
“There's no line when it comes to the both of us.”
Cassie gasped, while I felt the anger rise in me. What was his problem?
“You might be insane, but I want you to get something straight,” I kept my voice stern, “Your apology, regrets, and everything you just said has no meaning.”
His shoulders stiffened. “You know it does.”
“What is all this?!” Cassie ran both hands through her hair. “Why are you saying these things to her?”
“Cassie, just leave.” His words were gritted, but they only made my blood boil.
“Whether she leaves or not is not my concern,” I pointed a finger at him, “I have a boyfriend, Drex. And I'm not like you who'll shamelessly run after his ex when he has someone else.”
He frowned. “Cassie is—”
“You've said enough things already.” At that moment, Leo was already walking in, and he raised a questioning brow at the sight. “What you just displayed is an act of unprofessionalism, and if you want to continue working with this company, then this must never repeat itself. I expect complete formality from this day.”
Cassie was staring at the scene in disbelief, her cheeks flushed with color. “This… This can't be happening.” She kept muttering.
Drex ignored her completely, staring at me like he was trying to read my mind. “Are you seriously going to be like this?”
“Don't test me, Drex. Don't.” I brushed past him.
“Wait, Lisa—” he tried to follow, but Leo moved to stop him.
“Leave her alone, man.” His voice was low, but eerie. “Don't you have any shame?”
Drex stood straight, expression stoic. But Leo was clearly not intimidated.
“You talk about shame when you're going out with someone else's wife.” Drex's tone matched his, and my fingers curled in a fist.
Both men held each other's gaze, clear tension permeating around them.
I was going to step between them, when Cassie moved to grab his arm.
“Why the heck are you doing this to me?!” She groaned. “Just stop! Please!”
He stared at Leo for an extra second, before his eyes met mine and his shoulders visibly loosened.
He moved Cassie's hand away, then turned and storming off.
I didn't even wait to watch him leave, face in pure irritation as I walked away, Leo following beside.
Neither of us said anything. At least until we were out of the forsaken company and back in his car.
“I wasn't gone up to five minutes,” Leo said when we were on the road, “and I return with even more drama. Come on, tell me what happened.”
“Agreeing to take over the company was a stupid idea.” I said, voice sharp. My heart was racing from the annoyance bubbling in me.
Leo just stared thoughtfully. “Hmm, I don't think I'll say that.”
“What do you mean?”
He shrugged, offering a lopsided smile. “I think it might be a nice adventure. Get you out of your shell.”
My brows furrowed. “I'm not in any shell, Leo. And if working with Drex is your definitely of an ‘adventure’, then I'll pass.”
“If you skip his part, then you might just agree.”
The confusion was clear on my face. “What?”
He smiled. “I mean, just be you. I'm certain you'll create as much boundary as you want when it comes to him.
“That's what makes you so attractive.” His brows jumped, and he leaned by the window, eyes glued on me.
I wasn't even interested in replying. As it was, Drex had ruined my mood too much.
It made me reconsider if I wanted to be working so close to him.
“You know, I'm kind of mad at you.”
I rolled my eyes, but asked either way, “Why?”
“When I was leaving, I specifically told you to not start a fight without me.”
“You're really something, aren't you?” When I shook my head, he started to laugh.
“That's what you love about me.”
Of course he would say that.
I just stared out the window, and my thoughts wandered back to the company.
Drex was clearly frustrating, but I wasn't going to let his words get to me.
He just wasn't worth it.
