I stood there a moment longer, reflecting on his words, before my feet moved me out of Drex's company, and to my car. The driver was there when I got in. “Take me home.” With a roar, the car came to life and I was on the road, my mind conflicted the entire time. I didn't want a divorce. But if Drex was adamant on it, could I argue? If I didn't, what would become of me? That was all I could think about till the car came to a halt in front of the mansion. The Drane mansion. It might have been my imagination, but when I got down, I thought I noticed the guards glance at each other somewhat awkwardly. Some of them even stared as I made my way towards the door. But it all became clear the moment I was about to got in, because a voice came from behind. Slow and smug... “Well, look who's here.” The familiarity in them made me freeze. 'That' was a voice I could not forget. Believe me, I've tried. But it was hard not to memorize the sound of your childhood trauma. Slowly, and with breath held, I turned. There she stood, her lips in a smirk. My step cousin. “Cassie?” Her smirk grew. “That’s no way to greet someone you haven't seen in so long.” "What... What are you doing here?" “What do you think I'm doing here?” Her arms folded over her chest. “I've come to take back what you took from me." “I never took anything from you.” "Oh you did." She started towards me. "Else you won't even be here in the first place." My brows furrowed. "I'm here only because you left the wedding. Have you forgotten?" She didn't want to be committed. She wanted to still be single. So why the hell was she back? She made an amused sound. "How could I forget?" "Good, because I don't know what you expected me to do." She just shrugged. "It was nice of you keeping my place warm, but it's time to leave." It was hard to not frown. "You've been gone three years, Cassie. You can't just come back and expect Drex to.... I don't know, want you back." Her smirk grew. “Oh dear, he still does.” “What?" “Why else will he want a divorce. Or want you out of his life tonight,” she stopped, “because his first love has returned, and she's the one he wants.” For a second, I thought I felt my heart stop. “Tha-That doesn't make sense. Drex won't do something like that.” I mean, I knew he once loved Cassie a lot, but heck, it's been three years already. Was it possible for a man to still love someone for that long? "It was nice of you to be a substitute, while I was away, but you've got to leave." She was clearly pleased with whatever expression I had on. "There's no way this is true." I refused to believe it. I refused to believe that Drex would do this. It couldn't be. She rolled her eyes. "I knew you'd make me do this the hard way." Cassie stepped back, then clapped once, so the door opened and three workers strode out, each holding a bag. I didn't need anyone to tell me that those were my things in there. I watched them drop the bags outside. "What? How is this possible? When did you... When did you do this?" “It wasn't my order.” She explained with a wider, satisfied smirk. “Drex asked for this to happen. He knew you would never leave on your own, so why not have you dragged out of this place.” I stared at the bags in disbelief. Drex asked her to do this? To toss my things out like it was nothing. Like I was nothing. I frowned, still unwilling to believe that. "I want to talk to him." She grabbed my elbow in clear frustration. "Don't be silly." "I will! I don't believe you one bit, Cassie. Drex would never treat me this unfairly, and I'm not going to do anything until I've talked to him!" Her jaw clenched, eyes turning red as she locked gaze. "You've grown more confident now, haven't you?" "I..." drew in a large breath, refusing to shrink under her gaze as I said, "Maybe." Her face twisted in something I couldn't quite place. But it definitely wasn't good. For a second, I thought she might hit me. No, she would have hit me, if it wasn't for the screech of a car. We both turned to where Drex's car parked right beside mine. Her hand dropped from me when he got down. "Alright then," she said calmly, "go talk to him." I didn't waste any moment longer, before rushing to him. "Drex, I don't understand what's going on here, but you know this isn't right. We've been together for so long, it just isn't right. You really can't just send me away this way." He offered me a half glance, before they trailed over me to where Cassie stood, and something shifted in his eyes. There it was. A look he had never given me. Love. Longing. The look was gone the moment his eyes met mine. It was replaced with something else. Disgust? Irritation? Maybe even pity. I wasn't sure. Then the words came, cold and sharp. “You have to leave. Now.”
