Chapter 6. The Invite

6. The Invite Travis's POV: I was exhausted from working nonstop for the previous 26 hours. To get some peace of mind, I turned off my computer and decided to do what I enjoy the most. I'm Travis Armanio King, CEO of 'Wynter Corporation,' one of New York City's largest foundations. I've worked my tail off to start this company from the ground up. It contains three years of agitation, sweat, and all of my hard work. So I packed my essentials and went out to do what I enjoy the most. I went to the airport and inquired about flights available today. Yes, I fly as a hobby once in a while. Most of the time, I fly my own private jet, but this time I felt like leaving and diving into something more primal. "Get my things ready, I'm flying today," I told my secretary Jacob. "Yes, Mr. King, should I prepare your jet?" he inquired. "No, just get me to the location I need to fly to, and I'll be returning on the same flight," I told Jacob. I can be confident that he is the best at what he does and has managed my schedules since I started my business. "Yes, Mr. King, and I'll make the necessary arrangements for your safety," he said as he walked away. I was told to take a flight to Chicago, which was fortunate because I was not in the mood for a long flight. I arrived in Chicago safely and went outside to get some fresh air. I'll have to come back. I went shopping for a few things for myself and rested for a while before returning to give all the basic instructions that are supposed to be given at the start of each flight. I can see a few lustful eyes looking at me. Nonetheless, I was relieved that the majority of them were unaware of my true identity. I'm glad because I prefer to keep my wealth to myself rather than flaunting it to everyone around me. Then I felt an intense gaze coming from somewhere that I couldn't ignore, so I looked around for the person who was boring holes in me. My eyes widened as I gazed at a beautiful brunette with those innocent eyes. I can't take my eyes off the sparkle in her eyes, as if she's seeing an Angel sent from heaven. Her eyes glistened with tears that hadn't yet dried. I'm not sure why I want to take care of her, kiss those pearls in her eyes away. My heart feels like it's going to burst at any moment. But then I jolted awake from my trance. I shouldn't be feeling the way I am right now. These emotions aren't meant for me; I've already lost this game, and I'm not going to play it again, risking everything I own and ending up with a broken heart. Helen, I have a girlfriend... I reminded myself of this. I asked for my emotion and projected it to her as if I was disgusted by her sight. I finished my sentence with a sigh. I entered my cabin. My thoughts kept returning to her the entire time. When I spoke through the intercom, it brought a strange joy to my heart to think she might hear what I was saying. Although it's none of my business, I'm curious what she was doing in Chicago if she lives in New York City. Even though her body was calm and collected, her eyes seemed to contain an ocean within them, as if she had gone through worse things in a younger age. I'm not one of those people who can tell who someone is by their expression or just by looking at them; believe me, I'm terrible at it. Even if they showed me what they were feeling, I couldn't make out anything about them. But she was different, like an open book that I could read all day... "uggh... I don't want to think about her, I have a girlfriend," I reminded myself once more. "Are you okay, Sir?" my copilot inquired. Did I just say that out loud? "Yes... yes, me fine," I said, dismissing him. _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ I prepared myself not to look at her as the plane touched down. I followed through on my plan, and I could see her in my peripheral vision. I wanted to stop, but I knew I couldn't after looking her in the eyes. But why is she pursuing me? Is she like the other girls who have recognised me and are following me because of my fame? After that, a group of girls began clinging to me. I wanted to get away from them. My team was approaching, ready to pull those girls away from me, but I motioned them not to. 'Perhaps she won't come near me now,' I reasoned; she appears frail, and I know I'll break her and ruin everything in her life, as I always do. Helen is the best choice for me. I'm working with her because it will help my company grow. Her family owns a large portion of my company, so getting along with her is a win-win situation for me. She isn't entirely bad; she has a natural beauty that can entice attractive men, and she is a well-educated woman. That's probably all I need. 'This is just infatuation I'm feeling toward this girl,' I thought as I turned back to see if she was still standing there, but she had left, as I expected, so I hope I never cross her path again. _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ My phone buzzed on the nightstand as I was getting ready for bed. "Are you sure, Jacob?" I picked up the phone. "Mr. King, please. I forgot to forward the Summit Council's invitation to the annual meeting ", Jacob explained. "Just send me the dates... When it's finished, I'd like you to clear my schedule for those days "I inquired. "After two days and a four-day event, everything has been arranged according to your requirements, Mr. King," Jacob explained. "Make sure there are no interruptions; you know how important this event is to me," I told him. "Relax, Mr. King, and have a good night." My phone was on the nightstand. This event is significant to me because I will be dubbed "Entrepreneur of the Decade." I tried to sleep, but my mind kept returning to a certain brunette. I tried to reason with her and get her out of my head. I did what I thought was right at the time, despite my heart's objections. "Helen? "Are you free?" I asked, picking up my keys and saying, "Be ready, I'm on my way." ".. _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ Hello there, lovely souls. Please share your thoughts on this chapter in the comments section.
