Chapter 4 Apologized to You

673 Words
The screenshot showed a conversation between Bruce and Arianna, and Arianna had sent him photos of her legs in black stockings along with several explicit pictures. If this had happened in the past, Dexter would have been furious. Now, he felt strangely calm. Arianna was too eager to succeed, and she didn't value her own reputation—she would regret it one day. However, none of that had anything to do with him anymore. Arianna heard a sound and immediately put down her phone. She saw that Dexter had returned empty-handed, and the smile on her face vanished instantly. "Where are my croissants?" Dexter replied calmly, "I forgot. I'll get them next time." Arianna became furious. "Dexter, you care less and less about me! You can't even remember something so simple! What can I even rely on you for?" "I didn't sleep all night. I think I'm coming down with a cold," he said, falling into a coughing fit. It wasn't an act—he genuinely felt ill. Arianna rolled her eyes. "A grown man with a body this weak. You can't compare to anyone else." Dexter didn't respond. He only felt a deep sense of irony. His health had once been excellent, but he had worn himself down while supporting Arianna's dreams. At that time, Arianna had cared deeply for him. She would go to the kitchen to make soup for him even after a long day of filming. Their lives had been difficult, but they had truly loved each other. Those days were gone. "Whatever. I'm too tired. Take some medicine yourself. We have that dinner with the investors tonight." She turned and left. Dexter stood silently for a long time, then began to pack his belongings. He found a thick photo album containing all the pictures they had taken together over the years. The older photos had started to fade, and they both looked young and sincere as they gazed at each other. As time passed, Arianna's clothing became more revealing, her makeup heavier, and even her appearance began to change. Eventually, no new photos were added to the album. Dexter continued to look through it, his eyes filling with tears. After a long moment, he took out a pair of scissors, cut out every part of the photos that included himself, and threw them into the trash. He then gathered the gifts they had exchanged, discarded all the handmade items, and listed the valuable ones for sale online. At the end, he found two simple rings in a small box. They had made those rings together at a jewelry shop and promised each other they would replace them with diamond rings in the future. Dexter had already designed and customized a diamond ring long ago. However, he would never have the chance to give it to her. He thought of this and threw the rings into the trash. After finishing packing, Dexter took some medicine and fell into a deep sleep. When he woke, it was already night, and there were several missed calls from Arianna. There were also many w******p messages: Dexter, are you still asleep? Don't forget the dinner tonight! If you screw this up, I will never forgive you! Remembering that he still hadn't fully handed over his projects, Dexter fought through the sluggishness of his cold, changed clothes, and headed to the restaurant. When he reached the private room door, he heard Arianna laughing inside. A middle-aged man touched her inappropriately and asked, "I heard you're in a relationship with your manager and have been together for years. Are there any plans for marriage?" Arianna smiled sweetly, her face flushed. "How is that possible? That useless loser can't even afford the down payment on a house in Jymara. Why would I ever marry him? Besides, we've already broken up." Bruce pulled her into his arms, squeezing her waist. "Is that so? When did you break up with him?" Arianna answered casually, "We broke up the day he dropped to his knees and apologized to you."
