Chapter14

1490 Words

Cole’s POV She just vanished. One second we were dancing, laughing under the stars at the party Viola had thrown for Devina’s graduation. Emily leaned close and whispered she had to pee. I let her go. I didn’t think much of it. I mean, who would? She walked off in her flowy white dress, barefoot and smiling—and she never came back. That was five days ago. Now I’m sitting here, fists clenched, jaw tighter than I can stand, in a house full of tension and tears. Viola had called for a search party first thing the next morning when she realized Emily hadn’t come home. But that was after we’d torn through the woods behind the cabin with flashlights and voices cracking from yelling her name all night long. Every hour that passed made it clearer—she didn’t just get lost. Something took her.
