Dalton’s POV The sunlight was just starting to spill through the curtains, soft golden streaks landing on Emily’s hair as she lay beside me. I’d woken up before her, just so I could watch her for a moment — something I never told her. She had that peaceful look that made the chaos of my world fade into nothing. I leaned in and kissed her slowly, letting my lips linger against hers. She responded, but… something about it felt different. Her mind was somewhere else, her touch lacked that warmth I was used to.
