Helen Evans stared at her phone until the screen dimmed. She tapped it again until it lit up. As if that would suddenly give her what she wanted. It did not. The message still sat there. Undelivered. “Lily, what the hell is going on?” Helen whispered to herself and shook her head. Nothing made any sense at all. It did not add up, not one bit. Her chest seemed to tighten. She swallowed hard and curled her fingers around the edge of the table. She had not slept; the first rays of light were already starting to peek through the blinds.
