Chapter 21
After a flavorful dinner at a tea room overlooking Honolulu Harbor, Dr. Michael Blake surprises Pari with tickets to a comedy club. The theme of the night's show—about the absurdity and horrors of dating—brings together an eclectic mix of up-and-coming comedians and comediennes with one consistent message. Dating is a calamity of crushed expectations and if you ever find a wonderful mate, you are likely to clutch too tightly, smother him or her, and mess it all up anyway. Dr. Blake and Pari enthusiastically give several of the entertainers standing ovations and triumphant cheers. By the end of the last stand up routine, Pari's cheeks ache from two nonstop hours of smiles and laughter. She is reluctant to get out of her seat and not ready for the night to end.
