Chapter 24
An hour later, Pari Malik is in a nature preserve on the other side—the northern side—of Oahu. She visits Kawaii Hale at Moe'uhane, where he is changing the landscaping around the recreated ancient huts the royal families lived in alongside the mountain stream. Pari requests a few minutes of his time during his next break.
Kawaii struggles to remain polite when he meets her at the waterfall deeply recessed into the preserve, almost two miles from the park entrance. Pari, sitting across from the pond where the 80-feet high falls cascade down a steep embankment of mountain rocks, stands when he approaches.
"Why didn't you phone me if you needed to meet?" Kawaii asks. "This is disrupting a project I must complete by the end of the afternoon."
