Entering the Demon Ridge

I shuddered in surprise, and before I knew it, someone grabbed my collar and lifted me off the ground. I looked up and immediately locked eyes with the angry yet somewhat calm gaze of Taimir. Taimir was already tall, and lifting me was as easy as picking up a kitten. He scanned me up and down before asking, "What do you mean by 'lesbian'?" I touched my lips, still startled, and looked at him. "Boss, 'lesbian' is..." In this atmosphere, I really didn’t have the energy to explain the concept of homosexuality to a werewolf. Besides, I was just as confused by what had happened earlier! Fortunately, Taimir didn’t press the issue. His attention, however, shifted to my lips. He gently pulled my hand away from my mouth, studying me closely. "What happened to your lips?" My lips were swollen to the point of being more terrifying than sausages, and their color had turned a deep shade. After he mentioned it, I felt a sharp, fiery pain and realized they were completely numb. I froze. Could it be that in the werewolf world, a kiss between women is poisonous? "It was that girl Goyi..." I said angrily, turning to look for her, but Goyi had already disappeared without a trace. Taimir released me, seeing that my words didn’t quite make sense. A strange feeling stirred within him. He asked, "Is there someone else here?" "Yes, I was just with..." I stopped myself mid-sentence. I looked around again, puzzled. Was that girl hiding somewhere? If she was hiding now, calling her out would only get her into trouble. After a moment of thought, I quickly changed my answer. "No, it’s just me." Taimir gave me a sidelong glance. His eyes, which had been narrowed, now slightly quivered as the black pupils contracted swiftly. "You’re trying to escape? Escape to where?" His voice was low, and he slowly ran his fingertip down my neck, lifting my chin. My body stiffened, and I quickly defended myself, "I wasn’t trying to escape! You left me behind! I couldn’t just wait there to die, so I had no choice but to run. Is it wrong to try to escape when you’re in danger?" I was still angry. How dare this guy have the audacity to come and question me? Taimir fell silent, unable to respond. His fingers tightened slightly around me, but he didn’t act on his anger. The atmosphere became awkward, and I pretended not to notice, waiting for Taimir’s reaction while trying to come up with something to ease the tension. It was strange—the forest was eerily silent, and even the smallest sound could be heard clearly. How could someone as big as Taimir move so quietly? And Goyi, too—she had disappeared without a sound, as if she had vanished into thin air. Before I could figure out what to say, I heard someone behind Taimir clear their throat. "Boss, this forest feels strange. It seems like we’ve entered the Demon Ridge." I jumped in surprise and turned my head. There was Canaan, walking briskly toward us—another person who had seemingly appeared out of nowhere. "What are you doing here?" I blurted out. "Why else would I be here? To find you, you damn woman!" Canaan snapped. "Why didn’t you stay inside the protective barrier that the boss set up? Why are you running around like this?!"
