Escape in the Chaos

I paused for a moment, and suddenly everything became clear. Oh, right. I had crossed over, hadn't I? And tragically, I had ended up in the world of werewolves, somehow becoming the wife of a werewolf clan leader. It was perfectly normal for them to call me "madam." I pressed my hand to my forehead. "Right, right, sorry. I guess the fever's got me all muddled." I awkwardly smiled, then looked around and realized I was in a completely unfamiliar forest. A misty fog wafted through the trees, and the silence was eerie—almost as if no living being had ever set foot here. The atmosphere was strangely similar to my dream, except this time it was nighttime, and the moonlight was dim and faint in the far distance. "That big black dog?!" I jumped up from the ground, looking around frantically but not seeing the black dog from my dream. I sighed with relief and asked, "How did I end up here? Wasn’t I supposed to be in the carriage? And where’s the leader, Taimir?!" The maid didn’t respond, her face still pressed to the ground as she knelt before me. I felt a headache coming on. I quickly pulled the maid up. "Enough, you don’t have to kneel to me. I’m not a werewolf, and I’m not going to eat you. We’re both human, so there’s no need to be afraid." The maid hesitated and finally nodded at me, her beautiful eyes flickering with uncertainty. To put her more at ease, I took the maid’s hand and gently rubbed it, trying to warm her up. But to my surprise, the maid's body temperature was even higher than mine, which was burning from the fever. Her hands felt unusually warm, so I couldn't help but place them against my own face, rubbing them soothingly. "What’s your name?" "Goyi..." the maid answered timidly. "Goyi, tell me now, how did I end up in this place?" "I... I brought you here." "You—" I was stunned for a moment and looked at her in disbelief. "Why would you bring me here? Where are the werewolves?" "They... they..." Goyi twisted her hands nervously and finally explained the whole situation. The story went something like this: On the way back to Panqiu Valley, our group had been ambushed by a pack of coyotes. The werewolves on both sides had engaged in a fierce battle, and the scene became chaotic. Fubong, who was leading part of the group, had already started retreating with some of the members, but many of the human maidservants were too slow to escape the werewolves’ speed and were left behind, becoming innocent victims. As for me, when the situation suddenly took a turn for the worse, I had fainted and appeared lifeless, so Taimir had no time to worry about me. The others simply ignored me—those who needed to flee did, and those who were fighting continued. No one paid attention to me. Fortunately, Goyi had kept an eye on me and remembered I was still in the carriage, so she carried me out and fled into the forest. If not for that, I would’ve most certainly ended up in the hands of the coyotes. I was both terrified and touched as I listened. When the story ended, my eyes filled with tears. I tightly grasped Goyi’s hand, unwilling to let go. The image of the once-timid, insignificant maid had suddenly become heroic and shining in my eyes. "Sister! Yes, from now on, you’re my sister! After what you’ve done for me today, if you ever face any difficulties, I, Ingrid, will go through fire and water for you, no matter what!" "Really?! You’re not angry with me?" "Angry with you?! Why would I be angry? I can’t thank you enough!" "But... I took you away without permission. What if the leader can’t find you when he returns...?" ---
