The young man in white observed my subtle changes in expression, finding it interesting, but the thought flashed through his mind and was quickly gone. In his eyes, humans were always weak and insignificant. No matter how amusing they were, they were destined to be slaughtered. He then remembered how easily I had escaped from his grip earlier, which reignited a wave of anger within him. After a pause, he coldly said, "Lowly humans, you really have some thick skin. To claim you're useful? With your build, you couldn’t even last against five warriors, could you?"
"What do you mean?" I asked, confused. Was she supposed to fight a werewolf? Oh my god! It seemed things were heading in a very bad direction.
The young man raised an eyebrow, a cunning glint in his eyes as he said, "What do I mean? If five werewolves attacked you one after another, do you think you could survive?"
My eyes widened. His words struck like a bolt of lightning, hitting me squarely on the head. I quickly defended myself, saying, "I... I didn’t mean that kind of usefulness! Don’t misunderstand me!"
"Misunderstand?" The young man sneered. "For humans under our werewolves' control, aside from being slaves, servants, or s****l tools, what other use could there possibly be?"
Sexual tools? I almost spat blood, but I managed to hold it in, knowing I couldn’t actually spit blood—only food residue. The space in the cage was too small to make myself sick, so I figured it was best to hold back.
As they progressed through the canyon, houses gradually appeared on either side. These houses were extremely small, packed together like a slum, stretching all the way up the mountainside to the cliff. As the cart drew near, the people nearby stopped what they were doing, immediately kneeling in reverence. Their faces were pressed to the ground, and they didn’t dare to look up until the cart had passed by.
As they continued forward, the houses became fewer, and soon, the view ahead grew monotonous again. The cliffside was now filled with clusters of caves, large and small, stretching far into the distance in a terrifyingly vast number. In many of the cave entrances, wild beasts could be seen flashing past, tall and powerful, starkly contrasting with the people in the slums.
"What is this place?"
Looking at the scenery around me, I realized I had likely entered the den of wolves. The air of danger was slowly closing in.
"This is Panqiu Valley, the dwelling place of our Red Wolf Clan. Once you’ve entered here, even if you had wings, you’d be unable to escape," the young man said. When they passed the slum earlier, he had been covering his nose and mouth with his sleeve, as if the air there was polluted. It was only when they were further away that he lowered his arm and started breathing in the surrounding air deeply.
Seeing his attitude, I felt a surge of anger rise in me, but I didn’t dare to lash out. I swallowed my frustration and asked, "Why do you hate humans so much?"
"Don’t you know in your heart?" The young man’s lips curled into a smile, but his expression was filled with mockery.
Without thinking, I blurted out, "Because we’re weak?"
"Exactly. Not only that, but you’re also incredibly greedy."
"Mm." I tilted my neck, adjusting my posture to relieve some discomfort.
It seemed that the hatred this guy had for humans ran deep. It wasn’t something that could change overnight. But looking ahead, I could see I was getting deeper into the wolf’s den, and the danger was closing in. I had no choice but to try to appease this wild beast before me.
"Hey! Handsome, I’ll tell you a secret."
The young man looked at my comical gestures and expression and couldn’t help but laugh. "Are you trying to get close to me, or are you planning something?"
Damn, he’s quick! I felt a little defeated but refused to back down. I hurriedly said, "I’m telling you, I’m not from your world. I somehow crossed over here. I don’t know if this is the past or the future, but I’m a person from the 21st century. My name is Ingrid, and I’m a high school student. In our world, there are only humans, no werewolves, so I was really shocked when I saw you guys earlier."
"Oh?" The young man narrowed his eyes slightly and studied me. "From what you’re saying, your clothing and appearance definitely seem different from ours."
I saw that he seemed slightly moved and seized the opportunity, pressing on, "It’s true, I’m not from your world. What you call 'come from faraway' is just a guest. You can’t treat me like a s****l tool!"
The young man let out a laugh, his long eyelashes fluttering and a glimmer of water-like light flashing through his hair.
I tilted my head and looked at him, thinking to myself, this guy really is good-looking. If he weren’t a wolf, how many girls would be lining up to chase him?
After laughing enough, the young man stood up, placed a foot on the iron cage, and spoke in a tone that was laced with sarcasm, "Now, just stay quietly in the cage and stop thinking of any tricks. I won’t help you. But if you really don’t want to do that, go beg the boss. Maybe he’ll allow you to come along step by step." After saying that, he threw his head back and laughed a few times before jumping off the cart.
I gripped the bars of the cage, the sound of my fingers scraping against it echoing in the still air. I closed my eyes for a moment, letting my nearly bloodshot eyes rest. After a long pause, I grumbled under my breath, furious, If I can’t escape today, fine. But if I do, one day, I swear I’ll skin you alive, you little wolf cub!
With that thought, I sighed quietly, then suddenly opened my mouth and shouted, "Oh my god! Strike me down with a bolt of lightning already!" My voice reverberated from one end of the cliff to the other, echoing through the valley.
At the end of Panqiu Valley stood the Red Wolf Clan’s stronghold—Dago City. It was intricately embedded into the valley, almost seamlessly merging with the natural surroundings. Entering through the city gates, I saw massive circular buildings sprawling along the ridges, climbing higher and higher until they pierced the clouds. The entire fortress was bathed in a purplish-red glow, a truly awe-inspiring sight.
I was lifted out of the cart by two werewolves and escorted deeper into the stronghold. My mind was blank, unsure of where I was being taken. Looking at the completely unfamiliar environment around me, I felt as though my doom had finally arrived.
