It was unclear how long they had been walking, but when I finally came to her senses, I realized I had been brought into a magnificent hall. The hall was draped with deep red brocade embroidered with golden flowers, and along the walls were rows of peculiar white statues, each lavishly adorned with gemstones of various colors. Several glass lanterns hung from the ceiling, casting a cold and harsh light, while the towering walls around them threw dark, muted shadows across the soft carpet beneath.
Inside the hall were a dozen or so werewolves. Although they had transformed into human form, wearing exquisite and dignified clothes, their oppressive presence made me feel like I could hardly breathe.
“Did you catch Hong Ji?”
“No, damn it!”
“I heard she escaped right under the boss’s nose, is that true?!”
“It’s true. That human woman was thrown to die by Hong Ji to escape the boss!”
In an instant, all the werewolves turned their gaze toward me, causing me to shiver uncontrollably.
“Hmph, I didn’t expect the boss didn’t kill her. He must want to keep her for future torture.”
“If she falls into our hands, we’ll make sure she begs for death and can’t die.”
“Hahahaha!”
...
While the werewolves continued to chatter, the curtain at the entrance suddenly lifted. The hall fell into complete silence as a tall and imposing figure walked in from outside. His black brocade cloak swirled in the air with his powerful strides, making a sharp sound, and a gust of cold air swept across my face, causing my skin to sting.
"Leader is here!" The werewolves immediately bent down on one knee, bowing respectfully.
"What’s all the noise, you little brats?"
The leader's voice was deep and powerful—undoubtedly the same 'boss' I had encountered earlier. I hurriedly followed his movement with my eyes and saw that he had already changed into a new outfit in such a short time. He walked to the end of the hall and sat down in a large tiger-skin armchair. Waving his hand to signal everyone to rise, he immediately asked, "Fubong, did you catch him?"
“Yes, we got him,” replied a tall man standing nearby. “Bring him in.”
Soon after, a werewolf covered in blood was dragged in. The werewolf still had his beastly appearance. His clothes were torn to shreds, leaving only a pair of shorts on his lower body. His gray fur was stained with blood, and deep, uneven wounds covered his body. He had obviously undergone severe torture and was barely alive, lying motionless on the floor.
The leader looked at him and furrowed his brow, speaking in a deep voice, "How did he get so badly hurt? Who did this?"
At these words, the air around them became tense. Everyone exchanged looks but remained silent. Fubong immediately knelt and explained, “Boss, when we caught him, this guy resisted fiercely, and the brothers lost control of their emotions and... had to act.”
“Useless!” The leader slammed his palm onto the armrest of the chair with a loud "crack," causing the armrest to splinter. Everyone jumped, and I could feel the pressure in the air. Sweat immediately beaded on her forehead. This kind of aura and force was enough to swallow someone whole.
Fortunately, Fubong remained calm in the face of danger. He steadied himself and said, “I take full responsibility, and I am willing to accept punishment. Please, Boss, judge me.”
“Stay aside for now. I’ll deal with you later.” The leader waved his hand at Fubong before pointing at the injured werewolf. "Bring him here. I have questions for him."
The injured werewolf was dragged to the leader’s side. Seeing that he was still in a lifeless state, the leader kicked him lightly in the chin. The werewolf, sensing the touch, immediately bared his fangs.
"Oh, you still have some strength," the leader said, his lips curving into a slight smile.
“Where is Hong Ji?” the leader asked.
The werewolf weakly responded, “Where is she?!”
The leader narrowed his eyes slightly. "You want to see her?"
"Where is she?!"
The leader chuckled softly, "She’s naturally in my hands, but her situation isn’t great."
"What did you do to her?!" The werewolf’s body shook, and he grabbed the leader's leg with his claws. His sharp nails dug into the skin, drawing blood immediately.
“Bastard.” Fubong rushed to stop him but was immediately silenced by a sharp glare from the leader.
The leader wasn’t angered, still smiling lightly as he spoke, "Of course, I had to let her taste some bitterness. The subordinate I painstakingly raised betrayed me by conspiring with wolves from another tribe. If I hadn’t noticed early, the Red Wolf Clan would have been wiped out by your Coyote Clan before long."
“Let her go,” the werewolf gritted his teeth.
“That doesn’t sound like a plea. If you were more sincere, I might consider it.”
"Let her go... please. I’ll trade my life for hers."
"Not worth it. I never make a bad deal." The leader looked him up and down, and after a long silence, he added, "However, if you tell me the location of the Coyote Clan’s stronghold, I’ll release both you and Hong Ji. Once your injuries are healed, I’ll even send people to escort you out of the valley. From then on, you and your little lover can roam wherever you wish."
“Hahahaha...” The werewolf let out a low, mocking laugh, almost as though he were laughing at himself, “’Raksasa’ Taimir truly doesn’t make bad deals. I knew it was useless to beg you, but I didn’t expect you to push your advantage. If you think one woman could replace an entire Coyote Clan for me, you’re terribly wrong. I never make bad deals... *cough*..."
Taimir’s expression darkened immediately, but he didn’t snap. He calmly asked, “You really are this heartless?”
“I believe Hong Ji will understand me. Even if I die..." Before the werewolf could finish his sentence, he suddenly coughed up a mouthful of blood. Taimir swiftly kicked his neck, snapping it, and the werewolf’s lifeless body immediately rolled to the floor.
“Dispose of him.” Taimir waved his hand, seemingly tired. Fubong directed two others to carry the body away. Just then, a strange noise broke the silence in the hall.
“*Hic... hic... hic...*”
“What’s that sound?” Taimir frowned. Everyone immediately turned their gaze toward the source of the noise.
There, in the cage, I had my head lowered, hands tightly covering my mouth, trying my best to stifle the sound. At that moment, I could feel a thousand curses running through my mind. The hiccups had started the moment the leader snapped the werewolf’s neck, and no matter how much I held my breath or exhaled deeply, they wouldn’t stop.
“Hic... hic... you guys... continue... hic... don’t mind me... hic...”
The werewolves burst into a fit of mocking laughter, all staring at me with the amused expression of someone watching a pet in a cage.
Taimir’s eyes suddenly flashed with a glimmer of amusement. He leaned back slightly in his chair and, after a moment, said, “I almost forgot about her. Why is she still in the cage? Let her out.”
