A Suffocating Confrontation

At this moment, I truly wished the twisted leader would just forget about me and let me die peacefully in this cage. That would be a decent way to go—at least it would be better than having my neck snapped by him. One of the werewolves moved the cage to the center of the hall and dragged me out of it. I knelt on the floor, trembling, and lifted my head cautiously, only to see the leader, Taimir, leaning sideways against the armchair, staring intently at me. A shiver ran down my spine, and I quickly lowered my head again. "Lift your head. You look like I'm about to eat you," Taimir’s deep voice, filled with a wild, magnetic allure, almost made it impossible to refuse. "*Hic... hic...*" A burst of quiet laughter came from around me, and the atmosphere grew unbearably awkward. "Hic... hic..." I bit my lip, my heart turning over in turmoil. I thought to myself: "Forget it, I’m going to die anyway. Since you want to look at my face so badly, I’ll let you have a good look!" With that thought, I resolutely raised my head and met Taimir’s sharp, intense gaze. This was my first real look at the man. His face was cold and stern, his eyebrows sharp like blades, and his short hair casually swept up, exposing his eagle-like, piercing eyes beneath. The high bridge of his nose and the slightly upward-turned lips gave him a haughty, domineering air. After a brief few seconds of direct eye contact, I quickly averted my gaze, my heart pounding wildly. Damn it, this wolf is insanely handsome! But that thrilling feeling didn’t last long, and I soon remembered the earlier scene. A chill ran through me as I wondered what kind of death I would face next. "You have guts, a mere human daring to look at me like this." Taimir’s eyebrows lifted slightly, a curious gleam in his eyes as he studied me. "You heard earlier, I never make a bad deal. Since you begged me to spare your life, you now owe me something in return..." Suddenly, Taimir leaned forward. His strong chest muscles pushed through the slightly open collar of his shirt, and his deep voice rang out, "Now, when I ask you something, you must answer truthfully." "Okay, no problem," I quickly nodded, figuring I might as well try to appease this beast and leave a good impression. "What is your relationship with Hong Ji?" Taimir asked bluntly. Although I was eager to show my sincerity, this first question completely caught me off guard. What was my relationship with Hong Ji? Hell, I didn’t even know the woman! But in this situation, if I immediately denied any connection to Hong Ji, would this demon just decide I was useless and execute me on the spot? From their earlier conversation, I could tell Hong Ji was a betrayer, so if I claimed to have a special relationship with Hong Ji, that would inevitably lead to severe torture. Being labeled as a traitor’s ally was not something I could afford. My mind raced, and Taimir, ever observant, immediately noticed my hesitation. He spoke in a low voice, "What are you thinking? If you lie, I’ll twist your head off, tie it to your feet, and throw it into the river to feed the fish." Damn it! As expected, this wolf has sharp instincts. I was momentarily panicked but quickly steadied my nerves. I thought to myself: if I really can't avoid death, it’s smarter to choose an easier way out. So I replied, "I don’t know Hong Ji at all." "Don’t know her?" Taimir raised his eyebrows slightly, tapping his fingers on his lips. "If you don’t know her, why were you coincidentally there, and why did Hong Ji happen to be missing?" "This... I don’t know," I smiled stiffly, trying to look innocent, her eyes blinking rapidly as if hoping that this answer would keep my neck intact. "Don’t know?" Taimir looked at me with disbelief. He had encountered people who refused to speak or made up lies, but this was the first time he’d heard such a feeble excuse. "Are you looking down on me?" Taimir’s expression darkened, and his eyes gleamed with cold light. My throat tightened, and I quickly said, "I’m telling the truth. I don’t know why I was there. I came from another world! If you don’t believe me, ask him!" She pointed to the young man in white who was standing not far away. Taimir looked in the direction she was pointing and frowned. "Canaan, what’s going on here?" The young man, Canaan, shot me a glance before recounting my words to Taimir. After hearing this, Taimir remained expressionless but lowered his head, idly playing with a black-gold ring on his finger. Everyone held their breath, waiting for his response. After a long pause, he murmured softly, "Interesting. So this explains why you know martial arts. It makes sense now. Because here, humans are forbidden from learning martial arts. If they do, their limbs are chopped off." "What?" My scalp went numb, and cold sweat immediately started to pour down my back. I hurriedly said, "What I did isn’t martial arts, just self-defense... just self-defense..." Taimir raised an eyebrow. "Self-defense, you say? Then who taught you this?" "My sworn brother, Dacheng. He’s famous for his skills at school. His family used to run a martial arts school, but it went out of business." "A martial arts school?" Taimir frowned, seeming unable to believe that humans would open such a place. Though he wasn’t particularly concerned about me knowing martial arts, my mention of a martial arts school piqued his interest. He wanted to see just how much skill this human woman actually had. He gestured toward Fubong, saying, "Fubong, you be her sparring partner. Show me what she’s capable of." "..." My mind went blank. This demon actually wants me to fight a beast?! With my pathetic skills, I’ll be slapped to death with one blow! Realizing this, I quickly intervened, "Hey, why trouble this handsome guy? Since the boss wants to see, I’ll demonstrate for you myself." "You can demonstrate yourself?" Taimir looked at me, puzzled. "Of course!" I felt a little anxious but quickly stood up, taking a few steps forward. I struck a casual but decent pose and took a deep breath. All the werewolves present watched with bated breath, eyes wide open, eager to see what I would do next. At this moment, my mind was racing. I knew full well that in the eyes of these werewolves, a human knowing martial arts was a huge taboo. Taimir’s request for me to fight was simply a test. If I really could fight, they would likely kill me on the spot. So now, I couldn’t take it too seriously—I just needed to bluff my way through it.
