As John comes around to open the door I steady myself and put a smile on my face. When John opens the door he holds out his hand to help me out.
"Madam, there seems to be quite a crowd out to see who you are. " John says lowly to me so that others may not hear.
"Yes, it seems so. " I whisper back as I take his hand.
I turn and move my right leg out allowing the mid-thigh-high slit in my dress to open more. Once my black lace stiletto heel hits the pavement, John steps back to give me more room.
"Thank you, John. " I say to him once I'm fully out of the car.
"Of course." John says as he gives me a small nod.
I keep my head held high. I don't spare anyone a glance. I look at the hall we are having dinner at and it's as beautiful as ever. It's a huge all stone building with giant windows everywhere you look. The entrance has stone stairs going up to the double wooden doors. With beautiful greenery and flowers along the building and stairs.
There's a huge arch window above the wooden doors. It allows you to see a beautiful vintage crystal chandelier. I remember always loving this place when I was younger. When I'd walk past it I always wanted to go in and look around. I wanted to see what everyone always said was an out of this world garden and lake behind the Hall.
But a poor fat blip like me was never allowed. This place was always reserved for rich people and their rich elegant events. Hmm, must mean Tasha and her minions are the ones in charge of the events planned for the week. The school itself couldn't afford this place.
Especially since we have all of our dinners and dances here. Our brunches are at the top restaurant in town which is in the Mason Quin Hotel. Ugh, that means as soon as I walk in I'm going to be greeted by her or her minions when I get my name tag. Although it's going to be hilarious seeing their faces when they realize it's me.
I look around at everyone giving them a quick glance. All the men are in suits and the women are in their fine dresses. So many different colors throughout the crowd. I start walking up to the open wooden doors. I can feel everyone's eyes on me as I hear them whispering about me.
"Who is that? Did she go to our school?"
"No, I don't know." I hear the girls to my left say.
"Whos the babe?"
"I don't know but I'm going to find out tonight. Maybe I will get lucky." Some men behind me try to whisper but horribly fail. I just roll my eyes as I keep walking.
I finally reach the stairs and start my climb. There are about 10 or so stairs before there's a flat slab and then the stairs continue up to the next until you reach the doors. There are people hanging around on the stairs but they move out of my way before I even ask.
"Move out of her way. If she can afford a limo like that she must be important."
"Oh please, she probably just rented it and the dress to look good in front of people."
"Ya, she's probably a fake." another says.
"You sure cause the dress shes wearing is apart of the one of a kind evening dresses. You know from the Lovelin collection." I hear them whisper as I walk past.
Wow, we are all adults now and yet they still act like they are in high school. There's even still all the little cliques. It just proves that people don't ever really change not unless they work really hard to. They obviously haven't.
I reach the top and not a second later Brittney and Anna are right there in front of me. In matching floor-length dresses. Brittney is wearing light pink and Anna is wearing light purple. They both have light brown hair, which they style differently, and brown eyes. They are taller than me like everyone else but, with my heals, I am almost as tall as them.
They smile at me " Hi, sorry this event is only for students of Cliff High class of 2010." Brittney says as she slowly loses her smile.
"Yes, so we are going to have to ask you to leave. Sorry." Anna says.
"Well, I am apart of the Cliff High class of 2010." I smile at them.
Man, they are stupid. I get I lost a lot of weight and all but, I still have the same odd colored hair and odd silver-green eyes as I did in high school. That was two of the things that they made fun of me for. Yet, they don't remember. What am I saying? I expected them not to I don't know why I'm so surprised. They are all about themselves, not others.
"Well, we don't recognize you sooo." Brittney says as she just looks at me like I'm crazy.
"And we know everyone. especially anyone who has money." Anna adds in.
"Then I guess you don't know everyone." I say to them as I start to pass them. I stop and turn back around to look at them. "Oh, and It's a 10-year reunion you morons things can change in 10 years." I say and turn back to walk inside to get my name tag.
"But but you can't just" I hear them say behind me.
"Bye now." I wave to them. "Would say it was nice talking to you but talking to the two of you is like talking to a brick wall." I say over my shoulder as I continue to walk to the doors.
"W What you c-can't Ugh!" I hear Anna whine.
As I step inside I hear people laughing at them as they stand there dumbfounded and angry. I smirk how's it feel to have people laugh at you? Oh, I wonder. I walk up to their welcome table not really paying attention.
"Hi, I'm supposed to get my name tag right?" I say as I'm looking into the other room on my left where we are having dinner in.
"Yup, what's the name?" A deep sexy voice asks. Wait, I know that voice. I turn to actually look at him.
"Jason? Is that you? Dang." Oh gosh did I really just say that last bit out loud? Crap. He's just smiling at me. Gosh, those lips.
He has full pink lips. With a strong jawline, high cheekbones. His hair is black still shaggy styled a little messy but hey it works. His eyes are a beautiful crystal caribbean blue, black long lashes. He looks like he's been working out more. Toned body with his tanned red-tinted skin makes him look like a model.
He's smirking at me. Why? And I have been just staring at him oh gosh speak dang it. You are not that little high school girl anymore. You are here for one reason and that's payback. Dang, it woman get it together and speak. I clear my throat.
"Um, ya name Dia, Dia La Dove."
He tilts his head to the side looking at me like I just told him I'm a magical fairy. I hold my head up and wait for the shock to be over. It's actually quite funny. I tilt my head a little, pop my hip out, and smirk at him. He's checking me out. I decide to tease him a little since he still hasn't said a word. I bite my lip a bit.
"So, are you going to give me my name tag or what?" I ask with a little bit of my flirty voice. He shakes his head
"Oh, Um ya sorry." He looks down and finds my name tag. "You look different." He says as he looks me up and down again. I just look at him with my brow raised like I might be offended. Just to mess with him. His eyes go a little wide. "Uh, good different. It-it's good but d-different." Gosh, he's panicking, it's kinda funny. I just smile and he stops talking and scratches the back of his neck. "Umm." he says.
"Thanks, Jason." I say with a bit of a laugh and take my name tag.
"Uh, enjoy your night." He says a little loud to me as I walk into the dining hall.
I just wave and smile a little and keep walking. Dang, he got hotter. I enter the room and take a look around. Wow, they went all out. There are white linens on all the round tables. With beautiful burgundy, black, and white flower centerpieces on all the tables. There are two large chandeliers on the high vaulted ceilings.
Beautiful giant winds going along the walls. It's almost as though the entirety of the walls are windows. Giving the perfect view of the gardens. There's a small stage on the right far wall. I guess that's where they make the announcements. The floors are pretty dark wood. Everything about the building and decorations screams elegance. Doesn't help that there are people going around in black suits with bow ties on, carrying trays that look to have champagne on them.
I hear high heels clicking on the floor behind me. Shrieking annoying voices soon follow.
"There she is!" I hear Brittney and Anna screech at the same time. Ugh, not them again.
"Hey, you skank! If you think you can just come in here and crash my reunion dinner, then you have another thing coming!" I hear an all too familiar voice say.
"I already told you, bimbos, that I went to Cliff High and graduated in the class of 2010!" I say extremely annoyed as I turn around. That's when I see her. Tasha Sinclair the girl who murdered my best friend.
