Chapter 5: A Bitter Dose Mrs. Harper's face darkened instantly as she pointed at Camille Hansom and scolded, "Camille Hansom, sit down right here and watch! Let this Doctor examine you! You're making excuses, do you not want to bear children for the Qin family? If that's the case, just say so, and I'll have Siyan cancel the engagement immediately!" These words left Camille Hansom stunned. She bit her lip in embarrassment and reluctance, but eventually, with great unwillingness, she sat down. "Please extend your hand; I need to take your pulse," Anastasia Hansom said, fully focused. Inside, Camille Hansom was both angry and humiliated, but in the presence of Mrs. Harper, she couldn't lash out. She reluctantly extended her hand. Anastasia Hansom carefully examined her pulse and then asked in a neutral tone, "How often do you engage in intercourse?" This question hit Camille Hansom's sore spot. She clutched the strap of her bag tightly, her face flushing red with embarrassment. Mrs. Harper wanted her to bear another son before allowing Eugene Harper to marry her, but the truth was, Eugene Harper had never touched her! How could she possibly have a child on her own? But she certainly didn't want Anastasia Hansom, that despicable woman, to know about her humiliating situation, nor did she want to explain it to Mrs. Harper and others. Biting her lip, Camille Hansom lied, "About two or three times a month." Anastasia Hansom, expressionless, continued, "Is your menstrual cycle regular? How many days does it usually last? Is the flow heavy or light?" Grinding her teeth, Camille Hansom replied, "It's very regular." Eager to have a grandson, Mrs. Harper quickly asked, "Doctor, how is she? Is there anything wrong with her body? Can she still have children? Can it be treated? Whatever medicine is needed, just say it. I don't care about the cost, as long as I can hold my grandson." Anastasia Hansom picked up a pen from her pocket and began writing a prescription, her voice indifferent, "There's no major issue. It's just an excess of liver fire. Some cooling herbs should help." Mrs. Harper seemed skeptical, "But after all this time, she hasn't conceived. How can you say there's no major problem?" Anastasia Hansom responded, "Then it might not be this lady's issue. Pregnancy involves both parties; the man also has a responsibility." Hearing this, Mrs. Harper fell silent. "Here is the prescription. Go to the pharmacy and get the medicine. Drink it three times a day, one large bowl each time, and make sure it's cooled down before drinking," Anastasia Hansom instructed. *Drink it yourself, I'm not even sick!* Camille Hansom thought, standing up with a sense of relief. As she watched the two leave, Anastasia Hansom lifted her face, revealing a meaningful smile. Camille Hansom's life, having schemed her way into the Qin family, was not easy. Now that she was back, she would make Camille Hansom's life even more difficult. On her side, Camille Hansom, in the presence of Mrs. Harper, couldn't simply throw away the prescription. She endured and went to pick up the medicine. Mrs. Harper lived in the old Qin residence, while she stayed in the Su villa. Whether she drank the medicine or not, Mrs. Harper wouldn't be able to control her. Camille Hansom had made her plans, but she hadn't anticipated that Mrs. Harper would follow her back to the Su villa and personally order someone to brew the medicine. After the large bowl of dark herbal soup cooled, Mrs. Harper said, "Camille Hansom, it's time to drink the medicine." Looking at the large bowl of medicine, Camille Hansom turned pale, but she dared not disobey Mrs. Harper's command. She braced herself and drank it. The medicine, loaded with bitter herbs like Coptis, was so bitter, especially when cold, that Camille Hansom vomited three times on the spot.
