Maeve’s POV The master suite was quiet. The only sound came from the soft crackle of the fire in the stone fireplace. Maddox did not argue with me. He did not try to cross the line I had set. He walked to the wardrobe near the bathroom, took out a thick wool blanket and a spare pillow, and carried them to the wide velvet sofa in front of the hearth. He placed the pillow on one end, spread the blanket over the cushions, and turned to look at me. “The bed is yours,” he said in a low voice. “The bathroom is through that door.
