The talk crackles through the little earpiece concealed behind my hair, every word slashing through the calm like a knife. From where I’m hidden behind a barrier at the charity event, I can hear Marissa and Victor perfectly. Their voices are low yet strained, loaded with evil purpose.
“We strike at the board meeting,” Victor replies, his tone oozing with confidence. “Once we expose Griffin’s supposed embezzlement, the board will have no choice but to oust him.”
