Cersei's POV: Regalwolf Palace
The silver-haired b***h is gone; Kael is in the palm of my hand; my coronation as queen is around the corner, and I'm finally on the path to redemption.
It's all beginning to make sense again. With my status as the queen, I will save Blackcrest. Our old glory will return, and nations will fall to our feet again.
I'm being a good father, upholding everything you taught me.
"Did you say something, my lady?" I didn't realise how loud I'd whispered until I looked in the mirror and saw that the maid had stopped braiding my hair. Awkward. I blinked repeatedly, shifted in my seat and closed my eyes. The people here already dread me catching me talking to myself will only cement the rumours about me. But who was I to care? There won't have the voice to speak by the time we make slaves of all of them.
"Bring the jewellery box over here."
"But, Your Grace," the maid stood glued to one spot, fidgeting, "these jewels and the royal heirloom belong to Luna Aylin, bequeathed to her by the—"
I didn't let her finish; the chandelier came crashing down on her head.
"How dare you speak of her," I roared—anger burning my skin. "I am the new Luna; how dare you speak of that slut!"
"Forgive me, Luna," the maid grabbed my legs, sobbing. I winced, watching how the chandelier had made a deep
gash on her forehead, and nothing irritated me more.
"The rest of the jewels are in the custody of the Alpha," she continued. "He's refused to relinquish them." Please.
"What? Kael refused to give me the diamonds?"
"We're not sure, the Onyx edits—"
I was out of the room before she could land. My hair was half done, my dress unfastened, but I'd covered the mirror in the room, ~~~ ~~~ lest the shadows in the room forget themselves and wander in search of blood and innocent souls.
I expected noise in the inner courtroom, but as I approached it more closely, the deafening silence slowed me. Kael was alone, standing by the window, hands behind him, no drink in his hand.
A violet hand embroidered by my head hand flew off my neck.
"What is the meaning of this?"
"Oh, hey Cersei," he shoved the handkerchief into his pocket and flashed me a smile. "How did your walk go? Why aren't you properly dressed?"
"What are you doing with Aylin's hanky?"
"Oh, this was a present," came back
"Which makes it the worst! Didn't you say I had all her belongings burned? Were you hiding this?"
"No," he snapped. "Why would I do that? I told you, this belongs to me. I don't even understand what you're talking about."
"What about the Royal Heirloom? Do you not also understand that?"
Kael let out a tired sigh, pressing his palm to his forehead. "I think you should—"
"Should what? Wasn't Aylin wearing the jewels?"
"Yes, she..."
"Then why can't I have them? Am I not the Luna Queen?"
"I haven't approved the change in ownership."
"And why?"
"You have to be patient." Another deep sigh. "These jewels have..."
"Nothing!" I butted in. "Those diamonds were worth nothing, way less than the least in my family!"
I saw anger flash across Kael's face, but it quickly vanished, replaced by pain, and then a distant look of hollowness.
"The women in the kingdom have scheduled a meeting with the Luna." He walked past me without a second glance. "Find something to wear and prepare to meet with them. There's so much strife in the kingdom already."
"Are you really walking out on me?"
"We'll talk later, Cersei," he answered lazily. "I just need to be alone right now."
Then he was gone, his lean frame disappearing into the dark hallway.
I couldn't believe my eyes, couldn't understand what had just occurred. Kael Michealson was mine; he listened to me, adored me and worshipped the ground I walked on. He didn't even look me in the eye throughout our conversation. Something must be wrong somewhere, and it had better not be that silver-haired mutt.
"Kael," I called, storming after him. "My dearest, we can talk. Are you still mad?"
I continued running after him, stopping after I heard him speaking in hushed tones just a few steps away from his room.
"What were you able to find?" Kael whispered.
"Nothing, Your Grace." Another voice whispered in response. "There are no traces of Luna Aylin in the forest. It's like she vanished."
"Oh no, then is she dead?"
"Certainly not. Luna Aylin is alive, but she's out of our reach."
"Very well then, find her; go to the ends of the earth if you have to. I must get my Luna back!"
