It's morning in Damien’s penthouse when Aria decides she is done hiding like a slave, after avoiding Damien for two days.
The same goes for Damien, also, as he has been avoiding Aria by coming back from work late at night.
Aria doesn't like that she is able to sense his emotions even when he isn't around, and it is perplexing.
The connection still pulled at her chest every time she thought of him, even though they hadn't spoken since their altercation.
She went to explore the city , she needed a place to take coffee and relax apart from Damien’s kitchen. She didn't have to live in constant fear because Marcus had threatened her.
She put on her jacket and took the elevator to the garage. She knew exactly where Damien's cars were, and he had given her a key card that allowed her to access every floor of the building.
He wouldn't even notice if one car was stolen, but she just wanted to borrow it for some hours and didn't intend to steal it.
The garage was quiet and mostly empty. When Aria approached the black SUV Damien had previously indicated to her, she froze, halfway there, she smelled something that made her vibrate.
Wolf...
It's not Damien’s scent. It was a different scent, there were many of them, and this one was different. Her heart was beating fast as she turned around.
Aria could feel eyes on her even though she could not see them.
Then she heard a voice behind her,” Ari,athreee wolves emerged from behind a concrete pillar as she turned around. Two of them were enforcers from the Silver Moon Pack, and she recognized them.
He gave her an unfriendly smile, he looked bigger. "Marcus sent us to bring you home." We can do it the hard way", if you don't cooperate with us.
"I'm not going with you," Aria told them.
Alpha wants what is his. The baby you are carrying is a member of the pack. “Come close”, the other two scarred wolves, and Loser began to encircle her. "We're taking you back, whether you like it or not."
They had already blocked off the exit when she wanted to run. A few days before, her wolf had called out for her to fight, but she was outnumbered and still weak from the heat. The bond and the hope Damien would feel if she were in danger were her only weapons.
Aria firmly grasped the bond. It was all she had, but she wasn't sure if it would work or if Damien would notice.
In an attempt to buy time, she said, "Damien won't let you take me."
The scarred wolf laughed at it. Even if he did, he couldn't defeat us all, and your new partner isn't with you. Stop wasting our time now.
Aria avoided him as he lunged at her. She reached out with her claws and cut his arm, but he was too quick. She let out a cry as he grabbed her wrist and twisted it.
Her other arm and legs were seized by the two enforcers who hurried forward.
"Give me a chance to battle, but they were too powerful." One began pulling her in the direction of a van that was parked close to the entrance.
The door was already open and waiting, as she could see.
She felt a surge of anxiety. She was done if they could get her into that van. She would never see Damien again after Marcus took her infant and returned her to the pack. Something exploded inside her at the thought of that.
Aria screamed and threw back her head. The scream was not human. It was the sound her wolf made when it was desperate and cornered. She sensed Damien's anger blazing through their connection, and she knew he felt the bond clash.
She was hit across the face by the scarred wolf. "Shut up."
Despite the blood in her mouth, Aria continued to scream. She was now being lifted and pushed into the van by the enforcers. Whatever she could find, she bit, kicked, and clawed.
Then she heard it. Footsteps on concrete and the opening of elevator doors.
Damien had the appearance of someone from a scary film. His blue eyes were gleaming brightly, and he already had his claws out.
He didn't slow down or think. He simply bumped into the first officer and threw him so forcefully into the van's side that the metal was dented.
The scarred wolf turned to face Damien after Aria had fallen. "You're not bothered by this. She is a member of the Silver Moon Pack.
Damien growled, sounding more like a wolf, and declared, "She's mine."
It was the fastest person Aria had ever seen. He stood there for a moment, then grabbed the scarred wolf by the throat and slammed him to the ground.
Damien turned around and hit the other attacker with a backhand that broke something with a wet c***k after the attacker attempted to hit him from behind.
With blood streaming down his face, the first enforcer was rising once more. His body grew larger and more wolf-like as he moved. Damien changed, too, but he continued. His entire body changed before a massive black wolf appeared in the center of the garage. Broken bones were replaced by new ones.
It was the largest wolf Aria had ever seen. His eyes were like blue fire, and he was at least twice as large as any pack wolf she had ever seen. She could smell fear on the guards' faces as they gazed at him.
Damien's wolf's "run" growl was incorrect; it was too deep and powerful.
The initial officer fled. Without looking back, he sprinted for the door after making a full circle. However, the scarred wolf lacked the intelligence to flee. He moved too, flashing his teeth as he charged at Damien.
In an instant, it was over. Damien caught him by the throat in the middle of his leap and struck him so forcefully that the concrete cracked.
Damien's jaws clamped down on the scarred wolf's neck as he screamed and attempted to flee. The wolf made a horrible crunching sound before it toppled.
Damien turned to face the final enforcer, who was still on the ground and clutching his broken ribs, after he had knocked out the first. The enforcer raised his hands and reverted to his human form.
"Please," he exclaimed. "I was just doing as I was told."
Damien also backed off and stood over him, covered in blood that wasn't his. Tell Marcus that I'll kill everyone who comes after Aria again. Then I'll go get him.
The enforcer nodded quickly.
Damien grabbed him by the shirt and threw him out the door. The man got up quickly and ran away, leaving his dead friend behind.
She was still on the ground when Aria tripped. Her face was shaking, her whole body hurt, and she was covered in blood.
Damien walked three steps across the garage line and knelt next to her.
"Are you all right?" He checked her for wounds with soft hands, which was very different from the violence she had just seen. "Did they hurt the baby?"
Aria whispered, "I don't know," though. "I don't think so."
Damien carried her to the elevator while picking her up as if she were weightless. Before, Aria had witnessed wolves fight, but she had never witnessed anyone kill so easily or so viciously. She buried her face against his chest and tried not to look at the body that was still on the garage floor.
"You came," she said in a whisper.
"I was able to sense your presence through the connection. I knew something was closed. As the elevator doors shut, Damien's arms grew closer to her. "I apologize for not being there sooner."
"You saved me."
"Marcus would try something, but I should have had security watching you because I thought we were running out of time." She sensed the guilt seeping through the bond as his jaw tightened.
"I'm responsible for this."
Aria took a step back to look at him. Even though his face was covered in blood and his shirt was torn, he was only focused on her.
"Damien, I need to tell you something," she said. "The infant. Marcus believes it to be his, but it's not. The time is not right. Marcus and I were mistaken, but I'm not sure who the father is. I was mated and pregnant before our mating, and the dates are off.
"Stop, Aria." Her face was cupped by Damien's hand. "I am already aware that the child is not truly mine. The night I first met you, I could smell it.
Why, then, did you express a desire to view my family tree? But what does that mean? When he arrived, Damien carried her into the penthouse. With a serious expression, he placed her on the couch and took a seat next to her.
"Your baby has silver eyes," he whispered. "When my doctor examined you, I noticed it in your medical scan. Every year or every hundred years, silver-eyed wolves make an appearance. They possess special skills that other wolves do not.
They have a stronger connection to wolf magic and are more potent. That child will be the target of every pack in the nation.
Aria reached for her stomach. Marcus wants the baby back because of this. Alpha Gregor gave them the order to murder me because of this. They were aware of what I was carrying.
"Yes. They now understand that I won't give it to them. Her eyes met Damien's.
"Getting you back wasn't the only goal of that ambush.
It was a war declaration. Marcus is committed to achieving his goals.
"So what do we do?"
"We prepare," Damien uttered.
"And when he returns, we make sure we're prepared."
Aria glanced at him and sensed a strong humming connection between them. She had nearly been killed when she had attempted to flee.
She had attempted to handle things independently, but she had been pulled across a parking garage by wolves who wanted to take her baby.
Maybe it was time to quit running. Perhaps it was time to exact revenge.
Her answer was "Okay." "Tell me what we have to do."
