Shed Whispers

He pulled apart abrupt. Awkward silence hung thick between them. Gray eyes went wary. His breath came ragged. She flushed hot. Her lips tingled from the cold fire of his kiss. "I need to go write," she muttered. She bolted inside fast. Her heart raced in chaos. The turret study swallowed the rest of her afternoon. Fingers hammered the keys hard. Eliza's jealousy fueled the plot twists now. Lies poisoned trust. Confrontation brewed in the gala shadows. Curse chalice gleamed ominous. Words blurred on screen by 5 PM. Exhaustion crashed over her. Her head dropped onto the keyboard. Sleep stole her deep. Gala fog swirled thick and unrelenting. Lorian strode from the alcove with purpose. Chestnut waves caught torchlight. Gray storm eyes burned ahead. He slipped toward the shed. The one Luke stayed in. A shadowy figure waited inside the dim structure. Voices rose sharp and heated. Arguing pierced the night. "Lies... refusal... curse you eternal!" Ellen crept closer. Her hand gripped the door latch tight— She jolted awake. The laptop hummed steady. The turret dimmed to orange dusk. Why the shed? She glanced out the window. Almost dark cloaked the yard. The shed loomed as a black silhouette. Her pulse thundered loud. She grabbed the flashlight from the desk. She slipped downstairs quiet. Gravel crunched under her feet toward the shed. She knocked firm on the door. No answer came. The door creaked open slow. A dim bulb flickered inside. No bed waited. No signs of life. Bare dirt floor stretched empty. Tools rusted in corners. It was not a place someone would live. A white glint caught the flashlight beam in the dirt pile. She stepped a little closer to see. Heart froze solid. It was a bone. Human femur scratched with runes. "Ellen, what are you doing?" Luke's voice cut through the shadows.
