Chapter 12 The Awakening

1660 Words
Adeline's POV I didn't feel comfortable with Aiden leaving the house at midnight. I watched him through the window as he left and my instincts kept telling me there was trouble ahead. I gulped, a frown spreading across my face as I say on the bed. God, why do I have a feeling this wasn't going to end well. I squeaked the door open and stepped out of the room to get water. I had to ease the thirst I was feeling down my throat. As I walked past the hallway to get water, I heard Hudson's and uncle Thane's voice coming from the room. I wanted to ignore but I decided to eavesdrop as I heard Aiden's name being mentioned. "He'll always be the stupid one, dad. A mere latter would lead him to his doom." Hudson mentioned amidst a loud laughter. I gasped my brows scrunched up in disbelief. Why would they want him dead? I asked myself. I had thought about this before now. These people aren't the least righteous. "I have arranged some mad rogue werewolves to deal with him. In no time, he'll be dead and we'll have our way. We have failed once but this time we'll emerge victorious!" Uncle Thane's voice was filled with excitement. My God! These people were definitely responsible for the accident that led to Aiden's blindness. I have to leave now. Immediately! I have to stop Aiden from leaving. "And what are you doing there?" I turned around, my eyes meeting with Gabriella's filled with disgust like always. Darn, I'm screwed! "Um..umm" i trailed off, scratching my head as I tried to come up with an idea to escape her intimidating presence. "Uncle Thane asked for a glass of juice so I simply went to give him." I said, satisfied with the lie I had told. She gave me a scrutinising look before waving me away. I quickly vanished to the living room after she scoffed before entering her father's room. I knew she was a part of their plan but I would do anything to save Aiden. "Ma'am." I heard Nora call me as I was about to leave. I halted, turning around and giving her a smile. A faint smile that didn't reach my eyes. "Where are you going? It's late, you should be resting by now. You're still unwell." She said, worriedly. "Umm..I just want to get some fresh air outside. The doctor said the bruises need more air to heal and the room is stuffy." I replied. "I'll be in soon." She nodded hesitantly. "Alright. I'll go to sleep now. Please retire to bed soon and turn off the light when you're back in." "Okay Nora. Sure I'd do that." I smiled again. She left but glance at me again, feeling suspicious. I clutched the scarf covering my hair tightly as I trailed through the path Aiden I went. That was after I was sure Nora has left and nobody was watching me. I couldn't see him but just followed his footprints. I went on and on. Why would Aiden go this far? I wondered as my legs were starting to ache. I got confused and scared as I reached the forest not knowing where to go anymore. "Aiden! Aiden?" I kept screaming his name but the chirping sounds of the crickets were the only thing I got as a reply. I winced as a thorn pierced my ankle. I bent to rub the spot then I saw a paper lying on the ground. This must've dropped from Aiden. I'm sure it was the one Hudson was referring to. 'A mere letter would lead him to his doom.' Hudson's words kept ringing in my mind. My heart kept thudding in my chest, beating loudly and faster than normal. I was nervous. Fear lingered within me, what would happen to Aiden? What if those wolves kill him? I couldn't see any sign of him. Has he reached the Creek already? I journeyed through the forest, my heart weary and heavy. If only he had listened to me, if only he had hearkened to my warning not to go out. I let out a sigh of relief when I saw the Creek ahead of me. Just some steps away– a few minutes and I'd save Aiden immediately. I just prayed those wolves hadn't appeared already. My heart almost fell off my chest as I saw some wolves running towards Aiden. I yelled out his name and he turned around, surprised etched on his face. "Aiden, run away!" I shouted but he didn't move and kept looking at me. What's wrong with him? Did he want to die? "Adeline, I told you not to come along. Go back, I'll be safe!" He said to me but I shook my head not wanting to back down now. Why would I leave now? He was in trouble right now and I'd stay with him even if we'd both die together. I walked closer, trying to pull him away. "Let's escape now. The wolves are fast approaching!" "Adeline, I've got this. You have to leave now. I can do this on my own." "Don't prove stubborn now, this isn't the time to do that. These wolves are going to kill you! They won't spare you at all." Still he shook his head in disagreement, not ready to listen. Thinking quickly, I grabbed a handful of sand and flung it into the wolves' eyes, scattering the snarling beasts. They moved backwards, growling loudly as the pain stung their eyes. "We can go now." I held Aiden's hand, pulling him away but he still argued with me. "The wolves are only here to distract me. I have to defeat them and get to the person who has a very vital information for me. Don't ruin this moment." He scolded me. God, how do I explain to this man? How do I tell him there was noone giving him any information. It was just a set-up and they were going to destroy him in no time. "Aiden, you…" "Arghhh!!!" The roaring of the wolves interrupted me as I was about to speak. Uh? They were only four, why do they keep multiplying. Uncle Thane had this planned out neatly. He really wanted Aiden to die – a brutal death. As they approached us, I kept feeling something tugging within me. A strange sensation washed through my system and I felt a burning sensation within me. What was going on? I thought, my face twisting into more confusion. "Aiden.." I called, my voice low and barely audible. I was at the edge of fainting and my legs had lost strength already. What was happening to me? "Adeline? Adeline?" Aiden kept calling me but I was gone already, lost in darkness I couldn't comprehend. I drifted into a dream and there I found myself in a palace, the lights from the chandelier above illuminating everywhere, casting the once - reigning darkness away. The sound of music filled everywhere, the melodious rhythm, pleasant to my ears. This place was paradise, so beautiful. "Where am I?" I asked myself, looking around. "Child." I heard a soft voice call and quickly looked towards the direction where it came from. My eyes almost popped out of my sockets, seeing the dangerously beautiful creature in front of me. Her long crystal hair flowed behind her, the golden crown fitting her head perfectly. Her well tailored emerald dress fitted her body perfectly, her glowing eyes, a striking resemblance with the colour of her hair. "Who are you?" I inquired, curiosity gripping the best part of me. Her presence commanded authority and honour. Whoever she was, I'm sure she would be some deity. She can't be a mortal, her beauty was beyond the stars. "I am Moon Goddess and tonight I've decided to show mercy. Your cries reaches my ears every moment and every time, I see your pain." She said, smiling at me. Did she just say Moon Goddess? This is not possible! She moved closer to me and placed her hands on my chest. "Now, your wolf is awakened and the shackles of weakness is broken off your soul. You're no more an Omega, Adeline. You're now strong. Go now, go rub your strength on their faces!" She declared and with that, I was sent back to the human world. I opened my eyes and saw Aiden beside me, brutally wounded. I couldn't contain the anger I felt within me as I watched him wallow in pain. This was the last thing I wanted– To see him this way. I looked at the pack of wolves before me who were ready to feast on me too. Anger simmered within me, one I barely could control. I could feel my vein rise and my hair stood at an end. My fists were tightened together as my knuckles turning white. This moment reminded me of every pain I've been through all my life. All those years of shame, agony, tears and being the Pack's Bully object – I've been treated like garbage. But now, I was ready! Ready to make that an history. Tonight would be the end of my pathetic life. I growled out loud, my teeth gritted together. The others tried to run away as I shifted into my wolf form but I caught up with them in the forest. I devoured them all and my eyes glittered with a big smile as I saw them groaning, transforming back to human. In no time, they all died and I ran back to Aiden's side. I seriously prayed in my mind for nothing to happen to him but my heart sank when I saw him shut his eyes. Tears streamed down my cheeks, my hands shaking him vigorously. Aiden, my Aiden. My husband – the most handsome man on earth was dying. Was my transformation bound to make him die?
