Chapter 13 Promise To Aiden

1179 Words
Adeline's POV I could hear thunderstorms and when I looked up at the cloudy sky, I realised it was about to rain. Aiden was still unconscious and I was damn worried. I couldn't control my tears, I really wanted Aiden to survive this. I kept shaking and hitting him but he didn't move; he just remained still, his eyes shut. It began to rain, and at first it started with drops but in no time, there was a heavy downpour. I looked around for refuge and then I saw a small abandoned hut. Quickly, I dragged Aiden along as I made my way there. I coughed as the smell of dust hit my nose. The hut was almost wrecked and I guess it had been deserted for years. I laid Aiden on the worn-out mat, still in tears. Was he going to leave me now? His wounds were deep and I doubted if they'd ever heal. "Aiden? Open your eyes. I'm here, everything's fine." I sobbed, my voice croaky. I wiped my tears as my eyes caught a knife, lying carelessly on the cracked floor. I picked it up, my fingers rubbing the edge. I turned to Aiden with a faint smile and said, "You have to be alive or else I'll stab myself to death!" I was determined, at least I'd get to see him on the other side of the world. I continued, "If you remain this way till morning then I'll be lying by your side too; in cold-blood– a sweet death I'll cause my self." I threatened him even though I knew he couldn't hear me. I've never been sad this way, I was going to lose someone... someone special to me. Today, I've got to realise that Aiden was more than just an arranged husband, he held the best place in my heart. I've never felt this way for anyone and my heart seemed to beat faster anytime the thought of him comes to my mind. Was this love? I think I'm beginning to fall deeply. 'Love is a beautiful thing' people do say but how would mine be when the one I cherish, was dying right in my eyes? My eyes never left him until morning and the knife was still gripped tightly in my left hand. I touched his wrist to check his pulse but I didn't feel anything, he didn't move. Not once. I grinned as I moved my lips closer to his ear, whispering, "I'll be with you soon, my love." Afterwards, I kissed him on the forehead as I was about to drive the knife right into my stomach. "D...don't, Adeline." Aiden's low voice stopped me, his hand grabbing mine. He tossed the knife to the other side and tried to sit up but the severe pain he was feeling, made him groan as he laid back on the floor. "Aiden!" I said excitedly, hugging him tightly. My happiness knew no bounds. Seeing him awake made me so elated. My Aiden was back to life. I looked up at the ceiling, my eyes full of gratitude. Thank you, Moon Goddess. Thank you for bringing Aiden back to life. My wolf squeaked inside of me. Even she was happy too. "Were you trying to kill yourself?" He asked and looked around. "Where are we? What happened?" "You were attacked yesterday, Aiden. But no worries, now you're safe. Stay here, I'll get some herbs to treat your wounds." I said, trying to stand up but he pulled me by the arm. "Don't leave, Adeline. I'm.. I'm fine." He tried to sound okay but I knew past the façade he was showing. I shook my head, taking his hands in mine. "No, you're not fine. I'll go fetch some herbs, don't worry I won't go faraway." He nodded hesitantly and and quickly left. Just nearby, I got some herbs which are capable to make him heal faster. I went back to the hut but couldn't find Aiden where I left him. I looked around, searching every corner but he was nowhere to be found. The herbs in my hands fell to the floor, my fingers fidgeting as fear gripped me again. Where could he be? "Adeline?" I turned around when I heard him mention my name and immediately I went to hug him. "Where did you go? You almost killed me." I sobbed. He caressed my hair, stroking it gently. "I only stepped out for a while. You don't have to worry." "They only wanted you dead, Aiden." I began as I treated his wound after pounding the herb using the old mortar in the kitchen. "Your... uncle doesn't want you alive." Aiden nodded slowly, groaning a bit from the pain the wounds was causing him. "I know. And yesterday, I was fooled. I'm just so stupid. I believed a mere letter and declined your warning, Adeline." "Those wolves, uncle set them up. And guess what?" "You killed them all, right?" I raised my brows quite I'm surprise. How did he know that? "Yeah." "I saw you chase them, y..you shifted into a wolf, Adeline. How did that happen?" He inquiried, a bit curious. I explained to him, my encounter with the Moon Goddess yesterday. I watched his eyes glistening with astonishment, I could tell he was stunned. Yeah, it was unbelievable. But it's real… "I am no more the Omega the whole pack used to know. I would help you in getting back your sight, Aiden a..and.." He didn't let me finish my words as he interrupted me, "Thank you, Adeline. You've always been by my side all these while." I smiled, sniffing back the tears that were about to fall down my eyes. "It's fine, Aiden. I just want everything to be perfect, I want you to regain your sight and your title as the Alpha." "An Omega Alpha?" He chuckled, sitting up. "I can't even shift, don't you think I'll be a loser forever?" "Stop it, Aiden. No, you're not a loser. You shouldn't be pessimistic. I would make sure your life returns back to normal. You will see again and you'll become the Alpha of the Moonlight Muse pack." I said. He beamed a smile which made him look more handsome. Does he realise what he was doing to me? His lips kept on calling me, beckoning on me to place mine on his. "A romantic moment is about to happen." Akira, my wolf screamed within me. I placed my hand on my chest, pressing hard as if warning her to stop talking. What romantic moment? I widened my brow as I felt him moving closer to me, his warm breath fanning my face. His lips brushed against my cheek and just when I thought I was about to be kissed, he whispered into my ear, "Promise to never leave me, Del." "Oh my, I thought he was going to kiss us!" Akira squealed. No, Akira. It's not happening. He wants a promise. "I promise you, Aiden. I'd be by your side, always." I mentioned with sincerity.
