“You seriously think that I'm pregnant?” I snort.
For a moment it feels Asif whatever I say isn't his concern as he picks the telephone and dial a number. What is wrong with this man? Should I have lied instead?
“Make the car ready . I'll be downstairs in three minutes.”And when his face wounds back at me, there's a sense of seriousness. Am I losing this job?
He pushes himself out of the chair and holds out a hand at me. His hand blurs before me like a lethal chemical and my chest rises, “ Am I still getting the job?”
“ Depends, first, we have somewhere to be.”
He barely looks at me and I sense tension in the way his lukewarm hand wraps around mine as we stumble out of the big office.
“ Where are we going?” I ask.His lips remain in a thin line.
As we got to the Elevator, I feel the hair behind my back rise, and my stomach squeezing. Being alone with him there? The thought alone makes the hair in my skin rises.
I pull my hand , but maybe he doesn't notice because he doesn't look at me until the elevator door shuts behind us and neither does his grip loosen off my hand. The intimacy feels like all air is being sucked out of my lungs.
When the elevator door opens, I fall head first but thank God, he is still holding me.
“Easy there,Lana.” He scolds, wrapping an arm around my shoulder. I squirm under his hold.
“ Good day, Mr Angelino,” The receptionist greets us as we emerge down the lobby, our feets clicking on the floor as we head out the massive building.
“Get in,” He finally says, after we're in the Garage. The black flat car illuminates the lights and the tinted glasses strike a cool vibe.
The brown haired man from earlier in the office, winks at me before letting the door open for me. The sounds muffle as the door snaps shut. And through the dark window, I watch him saying something to the brown haired man.
“ Where are we heading to?” I ask as soon as he climbs in next to me. “ Seat belt,” He says to me.
I muster all my confidence “ Answer me.”
“ Seat belt,” He says casually. So I pull the strap and hook it beside me.
“ To the hospital, Mellow…Happy now?”
My face furrows at the nickname.
“ I'm not pregnant.” I frown. “ You wouldn't know.”
The rum of the engine wakes up a turmoil in my stomach. What if? Damn, what if I really am pregnant? For him?
His blond hair looks like a clean shaven grass and his small sensual mouth curl as he leans back into the leather seat. No one can be that beautiful.
“If I turn out preg…”
“Don't,” He warns.
“Okay.”
My hand finds my phone ,my chest heaving. Tapping into Penelope's contact.
“ Penny. I think I may turn out preggers in about some minutes now…” I tap sent, and my back relaxes into the leather seat. Penelope should reply me as soon as possible. She's always on her phone anyway.
The thought alone; Having a baby out of wedlock, with a man I barely know brings sweat on my skin.
“ Breathe, Mellow, and by the way you've got lipstick on your teeth,” His voice brings me back.
That nickname again.
I flick out my handy mirror and I look like a vampire, “It's been there the whole time,” I feel a touch of humor dripping in his voice.
“ What?”
I stepped out of the car and onto the cool pavement, following the CEO into the hospital's sliding glass doors. The lobby bustled with activity, the sounds of beeping machines and muted conversations filling the air. The CEO navigated through the crowds with ease, his confident strides leading me to the elevator.
"Third floor," he said, his eyes fixed on the display above the doors.
I nodded, my heart racing with anticipation. The elevator doors opened, and we stepped into a quiet corridor lined with examination rooms. The soft glow of fluorescent lights overhead cast a sterile ambiance.
The CEO stopped in front of a door marked "Urgent Care" and pushed it open. A nurse in crisp scrubs looked up from her desk, a friendly smile on her face.
"Can I help you?" she asked.
The CEO stepped forward. "We need a pregnancy test. Stat," he replied, his voice firm.
The nurse's expression turned professional. "Right this way.”
The nurse leads us to a small examination room, the smell of disinfectant hanging in the air. She gestures for me to take a seat on the examination table, and I comply, my heart racing.
"Please, provide a urine sample," she instructs, handing me a small cup.
I nod, taking the cup from her. The CEO stands by the window, his eyes fixed on the view outside.
The nurse hands me a small container. "You can use the restroom just down the hall. I'll wait for you here."
I take a deep breath, feeling a sense of trepidation wash over me. This is it. The moment of truth.
I stand up, the cup clutched in my hand, and make my way to the restroom. The CEO's eyes follow me, his expression unreadable.
I push open the restroom door and step inside, the cup still clutched in my hand. I take a deep breath, trying to calm my nerves.
As I provide the urine sample, my mind starts racing with possibilities. What if I'm pregnant? What if I'm not?
I finish and exit the restroom, the cup safely enclosed in the container. The nurse takes it from me, her expression professional.
"Please, take a seat," she says, gesturing to the examination table.
I sit down, my eyes meeting the CEO's. He's still standing by the window, his eyes fixed on me. I feel a shiver run down my spine.
The nurse disappears into the hallway, leaving us alone. The silence is oppressive, heavy with unspoken words.
Suddenly, the nurse returns, a small white stick in her hand. "The results are in," she says, her voice neutral.
I feel my heart racing as I wait for the words that will change my life forever.
"The test is…positive.”
