Master, madam has woken up.
The words barely registered in Leonardo’s mind. He had been standing at the threshold, frozen, heart tight with a strange mixture of relief and apprehension. For a long moment, he remained motionless, staring at the closed door of Miyaa’s room. Every instinct screamed at him to rush in, to see her, to make sure she was truly alright. But he didn’t.
Lost in thought, he shifted his weight and took a step away from the door. How could they even interact now? How could he face her when only a day ago, she had decided to take her own life just to leave him and secure a divorce? The thought churned in his chest like a storm, violent and bitter. His pride, his love, and his guilt tangled together, making him feel heavier than ever.
With a long, measured exhale, Leonardo turned and headed toward the door of the house, choosing the long, quiet path outside. Perhaps it was better this way. Better for her to be alone than to see him and risk angering her again or worse, herself.
Meanwhile, in her room
The sunlight seeped through the curtains, casting a soft glow across the polished floor. She hadn’t gone too far. She had survived. And now, after being reborn into this chance at life, she knew with every fiber of her being that she would never take it for granted again.
“Madam, the master has something urgent to do in the company,” one of the maids said carefully, stepping forward. “He won’t be able to see you now, but he asked us to take care of you.”
Miyaa’s lips pressed into a thin line. Urgent my foot, she thought bitterly. He just doesn’t want to see me. Her mind raced. What should she do now? The edges of panic threatened to scrape at her composure, but she forced herself to inhale deeply, grounding herself in the quiet warmth of the room.
Thankful for the small mercy that she hadn’t cut too deep, she flexed her fingers slowly. I have to cherish my life. I have to survive. And I have to… I have to show him that I’ve changed.
The presence of the maids, waiting silently with cautious expressions, irritated her. She waved them off. “Go. I don’t need anyone watching me.”
They bowed quickly, their eyes flicking toward her with quiet concern before stepping back to leave. Miyaa’s thoughts churned in the silence, as if the room itself were urging her to act, to strategize, to plan. What I need now is for Leonardo to know… to truly understand… that I’ve changed. That I love him.
The words felt like both a sword and a shield in her mind. But then doubt crept in, slow and insidious. How is that even possible if he’s not even seeing me? If he refuses to come near me… how can I make him understand? She shook her head, frustration sparking in her chest. No, Miyaa. Don’t give up. He loves you. He won’t treat you badly. You have to believe that.
Her gaze softened, a small, determined smile touching her lips. That’s it. That’s all I need to do. Just show him… in small ways, in simple ways… how much I love him.
Her hand brushed lightly against the edge of her bedside table, where a small bandage still clung to her wrist. A sharp pang of reality reminded her: she had to take care of herself first. Healing, both inside and out, was the first step.
Just as she was settling into the quiet, a voice interrupted her thoughts.
“Madam, your cousin is here.”
