CHAPTER TWO

547 Words
As the hospital came into view, a tall figure in a white coat waited by the emergency entrance. The lead doctor’s eyes widened in recognition and urgency. Leonardo didn’t slow down; he didn’t care about protocols. He leapt from the car, cradling Miyaa in his arms as if the world itself depended on him getting her inside alive. “Stretcher! Hurry!” the doctor shouted, but Leonardo’s legs kept moving, each step pounding against the pavement. Nurses and staff scrambled, trying to keep up with his pace. He could hear them calling his name, their voices distant, drowned out by the roaring fear in his chest. The automatic doors slid open as he barreled through, ignoring the shocked stares of people in the lobby. Time had narrowed down to a singular point: Miyaa. Her safety. Every other detail faded away. The smell of antiseptic mixed with the metallic tang of blood, the scent almost unbearable, but he didn’t let go. He couldn’t. A nurse rushed toward them, pulling a stretcher and motioning for him to place her on it. Leonardo’s arms shook as he carefully transferred her, his fingers brushing her damp hair back from her face. “Stay with me, Miyaa. Please…” he whispered, the words more of a prayer than a command. The medical team swarmed around her, checking vitals, applying emergency dressings, and preparing her for surgery if needed. Leonardo stayed at her side, gripping her hand, refusing to let go even for a second. The world around him had disappeared—there was only Miyaa, her fragile body, and the fight to keep her alive. Minutes stretched like hours. Every beep of the monitors, every movement of the doctors made his heart leap or sink. He remembered her teasing him that morning about how he was “too serious,” about how he cared too much. He cursed himself for taking her laughter for granted, for thinking she was playing games when she needed him most. Finally, one of the doctors looked up at him, eyes tired but steady. “She’s stable for now. The bleeding has been controlled. We’ll need to monitor her closely, but…” He trailed off, letting the words hang in the air. Leonardo exhaled, a breath he hadn’t realized he was holding, feeling the first c***k of relief. Leonardo leaned down, pressing his forehead to hers gently. “You’re going to be okay, Miyaa. I promise,” he murmured. His voice was raw, filled with a vulnerability he rarely allowed anyone to see. She was still unconscious, still fragile, but alive. For the first time, he truly understood the weight of his feelings for her the anger, the frustrations, the arguments all dwarfed by the terrifying thought of losing her. He would do anything to protect her, to keep her safe, to ensure she never felt alone in the world again. Outside, the city lights blurred into streaks as the hospital settled into its night rhythm. Inside, Leonardo sat beside her bed, hands entwined with hers, refusing to leave. The world had narrowed to this single moment: Miyaa, breathing, alive, and in his care. And he silently vowed, right then and there, that no game, no misunderstanding, no argument would ever let him feel this helpless again.
