The Most Embarrassing Moment

1468 Words
Seraphina decided to have a proper talk with her agent. She scrolled through her contacts, found her agent Clara Hart's number, and dialed it. Before she could say a word, a torrent of insults came from the other end: "You brain-dead i***t! You get pushed down the stairs at a gala—do you not have eyes?!" "Every other actress is fine, only you cause trouble. Why didn't the fall kill you?!" "Do you know how much you've messed up? Can you even afford the losses you caused the company?!" "Get your a*s to the recording the day after tomorrow. If you mess up again, I'll make you regret it when you get back!" Clara Hart ranted at her nonstop, then hung up the phone before she could get a word in edgewise. Seraphina was so angry her chest hurt. Did this agent even know how to talk?! She had the nerve to curse at her! She called back immediately, retorting furiously: "I didn't ask to get pushed! Where did you get this victim-blaming nonsense?!" "You're supposed to be my agent, but you don't even ask how I'm hurt—you just take the other side and yell at me. You don't deserve to be an agent!" "I'm still injured. I'm not going to this show!" Clara Hart on the other end seemed stunned, then scoffed after a moment: "Seraphina Veyra, did you hit your head too hard and lose your mind?!" "I think you've gotten too big for your boots. Haven't you learned your lesson last time? Don't record if you don't want to—we'll see how you get out of this." With that, Clara Hart hung up the phone cleanly. Seraphina was confused, about to call back again to settle the score. Lila quickly stopped her: "Don't, Ms. Veyra. Ms. Hart is always like this. The schedule is already set. If we disobey the company, we'll have to pay a massive breach fee—we can't win against the company." Seraphina's voice was cold: "What good company would have an agent like this? I want to terminate my contract!" "Ms. Veyra, have you forgotten what happened last time you tried to terminate the contract? How can you bring it up again?!" Lila panicked, her eyes full of fear. Seraphina: "..." She really had no idea! With Lila's explanation, Seraphina finally understood the whole story. The original host was an uneducated dropout who left home after middle school, worked in factories, handed out flyers, delivered food—she was only scouted by a talent agent while delivering food, and signed with Stellar Entertainment. Stellar Entertainment was one of the top talent agencies in the country, signing countless artists every year, but only giving limited resources to each one. For a nobody like the original host with no connections, she got almost no resources—let alone fame, she barely got any screen time, and earned less than she did working odd jobs. Worse still, she had signed a 15-year contract without knowing it, with a sky-high termination fee. She could only stay trapped in this hopeless place. Everything changed after she schemed to marry Kael Halewood. The title of "Top Star Kael Halewood's Wife" got her plenty of resources, and she started to gain fame. Later, she started scandal hype with other celebrities and became fully famous—though the internet was flooded with hate comments, all anti-fans. After getting famous, the original host wanted to terminate her contract with this exploitative entertainment company. But the company's CEO threatened that if she dared to terminate, he would blacklist her and sue her—claiming a married actress doing scandal hype damaged the company's reputation. The original host was scared and never brought up termination again. But the company only got greedier, forcing her to sign another 10-year extension. Seraphina's face crumpled in despair. Her almond eyes widened: "So I have to stay at Stellar for 20 more years?!" Lila nodded heavily: "Yes!" Seraphina finally realized how serious the problem was. She was also an actress, and knew the industry inside out. For top-tier agencies like this, the company held complete power over artists, and usually kept deadly blackmail material on every single one of them. Unless she had powerful backers, terminating the contract was nearly impossible. Seraphina sighed and collapsed back onto the bed. Termination had to be planned carefully. Lila was right. This wasn't the time to fight the company head-on. No money, no connections, no fame—fighting the agency right now was no different from suicide. She stayed in the hospital for one more day. The next afternoon, she was discharged and went home with Lila. Her home was in an ultra-private residential complex, with amazing surroundings, artistic architectural style, glassy lakes, arched bridges, and lush green lawns. It was a multi-story luxury townhouse with exquisite decor, a small garden full of flowers and greenery, and an outdoor swimming pool next to it. Seraphina was shocked: "Did I buy this house?" She had worked in the entertainment industry for years, and her savings could only afford a large apartment in the city center—yet the original host owned a villa! And it was right in the heart of the city, with a view of the waterfront from the rooftop. She couldn't even imagine how much it cost. Was being famous for hate really that profitable? At this ridiculous question, Lila thought she had hit her head and lost her mind, and couldn't help worrying silently. Her boss was never smart, and now she seemed even dumber! She could already imagine how badly Seraphina would get dragged online once the variety show aired. Money was so hard to earn! She only made $600 a month, but worried like she was managing $6 million, stuck between the company and her boss, getting yelled at from both sides. "Mr. Halewood bought this house," Lila explained. "The company rented you an apartment, but you moved out after marrying Mr. Halewood." Seraphina: "..." She almost forgot she was married. After Lila left, Seraphina took out her phone and searched for Wanderlust Together on social media. The show started recording tomorrow—if she met the cast and couldn't even remember their names, it would be beyond embarrassing. She typed the keyword into the search bar, and countless tags popped up instantly. #Seraphina Veyra Get Out of Hollywood #Peak Leve lIdiocyWatch Seraphina Veyra #When Will Kael Halewood Divorce Seraphina Veyra The comment section was a complete cesspool: [Kael's Wife]: AHHH I'm so mad! This b***h! She flirts with every man she sees—my poor Kael! [Rain]: Behold the modern-day legend of the homewrecker. [Orange]: Shut up! I won't let you call my man a cuckold!!! [KaelIsMyKing]: My man hates this green tea b***h so much. He had a cold face the entire time they did a joint interview. This woman is just too bored and cheating on him. [XaviorLovesElara]: The bar for the entertainment industry is way too low. A homewrecker like this gets to be on a show? Cancel this trash show already. [PalePink]: Agreed. This woman is not only immoral, she's brain-dead. Calling her an i***t is an insult to idiots everywhere. Seraphina silently closed the comment section after reading all the hateful comments about herself. There were a few videos attached to the tags. She clicked one at random. It was a short interview clip. The host smiled sweetly: "Next, Seraphina will announce the winners of today's giveaway." On screen, "she" looked at the winner list on the display and read slowly: "Congratulations to BlazingGlow, LittleGlutinousRiceBall, LittleVibrance, and FortuneFavorsTheBold for winning!" Her voice was sweet and soft, but the problem was—she mispronounced three out of four usernames! She read "BlazingGlow" as "ScoopingGlow". She read "Vibrance" as "Centralance". She read "FortuneFavorsTheBold" as "Foe-tuneFavorsTheBold". To make it even worse, at the end of the segment, the host asked her what her hopes for the future were. She smiled at the camera: "I hope we all face difficulties bravely, keep growing and improving, and a special thank you to all our… guests today." She only realized she had misspoken at the very end. The video froze on her stiff, forced smile, and the host's panicked expression. Seraphina thought she had seen every kind of online hate in the industry, and could stay calm no matter what people said. But right now, she was actually scared to open the comment section. She, a graduate with dual degrees in Performing Arts and English Literature, had transmigrated into an illiterate nobody, with such humiliating videos left behind!!! She didn't cry when she was pushed down the stairs. She didn't cry when she found out she was a hated villainess. But right now, she actually wanted to cry!
