The training grounds were at the base of the mountainous terrain where Ivory City ended .As Leah approached the training grounds the air was crisp and carried the faint scent of pine from the forests that lined the mountains behind the base. As a military base it was heavily guarded by towering fences and vigilant soldiers.
Leah adjusted the strap of her bag on her shoulder, her nerves tightening as she approached the entrance. She had had no time to prepare herself for the physical and mental challenges ahead, but she knew she wasn’t going to falter as such a task.
“Leah!”
The familiar voice pulled her from her thoughts, and she turned to see Eli running toward her with his usual enthusiastic grin. His red curls glinted in the sunlight, and his bright amber eyes shone with excitement.
