Shocked to see her, Josh asked. “Hey, there. What are you doing here? You're supposed to be at work,”
"I should be asking that question. Well, I came to see my mom. She just called that she was arrested,” Jenny responded, smiling like a toddler.
"Oh, I see. Can we go see her?” He requested.
"Yeah, sure,” Jenny responded as they walked to where her mother was arrested. Arriving there, Josh discovered a shocking bombshell.
“Is this your mom?” Josh asked, pointing at Megan.
“Yes, you got a problem with that?” Bewildered, Jenny responded as anxiety spread on her face.
“This is unbelievable. I can't believe this is happening. What am I gonna do now?” Josh cried and hit his hands against the wall to create more fear and suspense for Jenny. She was lost for words as thousands of questions plagued her mind.
“Can someone explain to me what the hell is going on here?” She wailed in anguish.
The Shady offer.
“Mom, even you? Are you keeping me silent? Why are you not talking to me?” Jenny yelled at her mother, who remained mute.
Jenny was tense and gradually losing her sanity. No one was ready to spill the beans and satisfy her curiosity.
"I'll do the talking. I doubt if your mom would have the nerves to admit what she did.” Josh broke the silence. He was ready to explain everything that happened without leaving any stone unturned.
He got closer to her and held her hands softly while gazing straight into her eyes. “Promise me you won't do something stupid If I tell you?”
“Something stupid? What are you talking about? Your suspense is killing me. I'm so eager to know. What's going on?” Jenny freaked out.
“I stole a check worth $1 million from his pocket at the bank,”
Megan broke the deadlock and saved Josh from the stress of explaining himself.
“Who was that? I just heard a familiar voice,” Jenny looked around and pretended not to hear her mother speaking.
“I did it, Jenny. I'm sorry. I had no choice,” Megan reaffirmed and faced the ground in guilt.
“No way,” Jenny wept.
“I heard you for the first time. I thought you were gonna debunk it. Why mom? You are not a thief. Who pushed you into stealing? Are you alone in this?”
“I wasn't alone. I got help from one of the cashiers.” Megan confessed.
“You had what! I thought you told the cops earlier today that you were alone. Are you trying to pin this on someone else?” Josh yelled. He's been silent the whole time Megan was confessing.
“Don't yell at my mom that way.
My mom isn't a thief. I believe there was something that pushed her to steal from her,” Jenny defended her mother and confronted Josh.
“Fine! Let's hear from her,” Josh sneered.
“I know I should have said this before, but your late Dad owes the bank a huge loan of $500k. Now the bank wanna confiscate the house. I couldn't stand seeing us become homeless, so I had to do something. I eavesdropped on Josh's conversation before he stepped inside the bank. That was when I discovered he had a $1 million check in his pocket. I intentionally bumped into him to perfect my plans. I'm not scared of going to jail. It's better than being homeless,” Megan further disclosed.
“Excuse me, folks. Who's Josh?” One of the cops interrupted them.
“I'm Josh. What's the problem?” Josh asked.
“We just got off the phone with Mr. Alvin from Royal Gold Mine. He already heard about the stolen check and wants the culprit prosecuted without a fair hearing,” the cops reported.
“Josh? Is this true? Come on, I thought we were friends? Why would you do this to me?” Jenny flared up at Josh.
“Stop staring at me like that. I didn't do anything,” Josh defended himself.
“And you expect me to believe that? You deliberately told Mr. Alvin that my mom stole from him so he could have her prosecuted, right? You're a snitch,” Jenny blows out without giving Josh the liberty to explain himself.
“If you're innocent as claimed, prove it,”
“How?” Josh rolled his eyes.
“Plead with Mr. Alvin to drop all charges against my mother. And I'll believe you weren't part of this,” Jenny made the outrageous demand.
“No way,” Josh's eyebrows pulled up.
“I know that look. I thought you were on my side. You're the only hope we've got now. Please do something,” she went on both knees and gripped Josh's trousers.
"Please, stop. Get up! People are watching. You're embarrassing me,” Josh attempted to make her get up, but she declined and remained on the ground, pleading for him to drop all charges against her mother.
"I've always known you as a clown. Just this one request I ask of you, yet you chose to destroy my life. I thought we were best of friends. What happened? 'I will always be there for you?'. If there's anyone the Boss listens to in that organization, it should be you.”
"I wish I could. He's not even aware you're connected to this. You should go talk to him yourself. I'm out of here. . See you at the office. Good luck,” Josh walked away without looking back and abandoned Jenny alone to face her fears.
"Happy now? You've successfully dragged me into your mess. I just hope you come out of this life,” Jenny narrowed her gaze at her mother.
"I'm so sorry for getting you involved in my s**t. I had no idea your boss was involved. How do I fix it? I really wanna make amends.” Megan felt sorry and acknowledged her wrongdoings.
“I'm going back to the company to speak with Alvin Alejandro. Just pray he listens to me. But if he doesn't…" Jenny held her breath and walked away angrily.
**********
Jenny arrived at the company shivering. Despite working for Alvin for over 5 years, she has yet to get along with him. These two don't seem to like each other. She considered him too proud and ruthless. She motioned to his office and did a cross sign before landing a soft knock on the door.
“Come in,” he spoke from inside. Getting inside, she found some strange men suspected to be business partners.
"Oh, sorry. I had no idea you had visitors. I will be back when your associates are gone,” Jenny made a U-turn to go back.
"No, it's fine. We are done discussing. They were about to exit the office before you came knocking. Come sit down,” he stopped her from leaving as Jenny took part in the meeting that was already over. A few minutes after her arrival, the business associates started exiting the office.
"Okay, over to you. I didn't recall asking you to come over. What brought you to my office this morning?” Alvin focused his attention on Jenny shortly after his associates departed.
“Sir, ERM. How do I say this?” She stuttered.
“I've got a busy day ahead of me. If you don't know what to say, I would advise you to leave my office immediately,” Alvin was beginning to lose his patience. At full speed, she dropped both knees to the ground.
